First vid is me launching in SECOND gear with the AntiLag on (if ur car cant launch in 2nd n still light up the tyres all down the road in the dry, then it aint fast enuf, lol ;) ) . Wouldve looked better, but for no aparent reason i let off for a second or so before i changed up, idiot. And on the return i shudve just tore past instead of stopping, but still looks n sounds pretty mad, with some nice flames :) . On the VHS version you can see the big black lines the tyres left, but the quality on this version not quite good enuf to see. Camera works a bit shakey too, but hey...

Second vid is me tearing past on my private dual carridgeway ;) , then letting off for some more nice bangs n flames from the AntiLag.

Also boost was only 20psi or so for the vids (actuator problem), usually 30psi.

Got 15mins of action on VHS, gonna do some more this weekend i think...

Cheers, Steve

Lovely motor steve.
One of me all time faves and black as well.
Sorry for asking silly Q: Did it start life as a 500?
Are you running the T4 or bigger/hybrid? Do you run the 8 jectors and what sort of horse.
All the right bits, some top brakes and love the interior.

Spot on example and hope to see it around sometime.
keep it on the black stuff.

Steve3drALS 31 October 2002 04:41 PM

No, started life as a normal (if u can call cars like that normal)Sierra Cosworth.

Im running a WRC spec T35 and 4 grey (550cc) injectors at the moment, holding 30psi, for around 420bhp.

Full engine spec is-

4x4 block, wire ringed and long studded,
Linghtened+Balanced bottom end,
Low compression (7.5:1) forged pistons,
Ex Formuala Saloons RaceSpec head,
BD10 Cams,
RS500 Intercooler,
T35 WRC spec turbo ic maram 247 shaft and iconel exhaust wheel,
Grey injectors,
3bar map sensor,
Pectel P8 managment with AntiLag,
3" custom made single box exhaust,
Adjustable actuator,
Bloody huge air filter,
Twin Fuel pumps and larger bore fuel lines,
Silicone Hoses,
Heatproof wrap on manifold and downpipe,
Uprated Breather System,
30psi of boost (held, not peak)

Ummm, i THINK thas all the engine spec, prolly forgot summat tho.

Pretty soon il be running air injectors, 8injectors on a WRC manifold, with custom plenumn, and 75mm+throttle body. With the current turbo it wont realy gain me any power, jus torque, but its not for the current turbo really, once i make the cash (few months i hope) il be gettin either a T4 (which will give me an easy 500+bhp running less bosst than im currently running, or ideally summat like a T61 and external wastegate (tho that needs different ex'manifold), for 550+bhp (can get 650+ with wilder cams and decent reliability, as thankfully cossie tunings came out of the 90's and there tons of foriegn, and at least 3 uk roadcar cossies built (or being built) with over 600bhp... hell 700+ in rallycross spec where engine will last like half hour! lol). The head i got is far too good (well, ports too big) for the size turbo i currently got, wasted really, but a T4 or bigger will suit it fine.

Apart from engine stuff, next thing im gettin (few days i hope) is a full cage, powdercoated white.

Need some wider rear tyres too (255s will go on with bit of arch lip trimming).

Cheers, Steve

Steve,
seen any durability issues on the turbine through using ALS?
I'd like to know if it's a myth or not!

Nick

Steve3drALS 01 November 2002 05:41 PM

depends, GENERALLY a myth tho, ive got an uprated shaft and exhaust turbine in mine as i run VERY viscous levels of antilag, but had no problems at all with almost constant use and EGT gauge off the end of the 1600degrees scale for very long periods. Using std shaft n ex wheel would cause probs tho.

BUT

You can run a more mild level, which in all honesty isnt that much less viscous, which can run with std shaft etc. I ran it like that for 1.5yrs, and friends have run like that for over 2 years, with no wear on the turbo at all. When the turbos were removed to be built to WRC spec there was no wear on the shaft and ex turbine at all...

So generally its a myth thats spread as 99% of people have no knowlege of ALS, just see them changin broken turbos on WRC cars....

ALS kicks ass, id honestly never own a turbo car without it now. It makes car soo much better.

Cheers, Steve

Steve,

Is your ALS system switchable, ie can you turn it off easily on demand like on a switch or anything.

Ta

Steve3drALS 02 November 2002 01:37 PM

hell yea its on a switch! car would be undrivable with it on 24/7!

basically, once installed, to activate it your jus earthing one of the pins on the ecu (the ecu does the rest like onpening the ALS valve, retarding the ign, and upping the fueling), so you just fit a switchable earth to that pin.

with ALS on its very lumpy at light throttle at low speeds (sub 30mph), there constant HUGE pops bangs and 6ft flames (belive me, the police dont like it, ive heard the words "impound your car" come out of coppers mouths enough times to keep it off unless im pretty sure the cars near me arnt police...), and in the wet youd be dead in 2mins, as with it on in the wet, it can wheelspin while changing up even with you not touching the accelerator.

But that dissadvantage in the wet is a huge advantage in the dry (or with 4wd), as the innitial acceleration is MUCH more sudden and violent as with ALS switched off.

Lots of EVO owners seem to have it (no idea how mild/wild tho, id need to see the size of the ALS/Throttle air bypass valve to know), so theyd be able to say how good it is in a 4wd (ive been in 2 esc cossies with it, so 4wd, and they VERY impressive, unbelivably impressive actually, i expect even better in a scooby or EVO etc which has a much better 4wd system.

Cheers, Steve
