why?

PopeyeP1 26 October 2002 06:11 PM

OMG u found a similar version. Will have to ring up Rods and let him copy that pic(if its alright). He lives for those motors!!!

softwizz 26 October 2002 06:40 PM

PopeyeP1, by all means use the pic, though it's sh*te because it was captured from some video and is low-res and the wrong aspect ratio.

If your friend wants to talk Allegros, tell him to email my wife Gill at gobananas@beautifulbaboon.com - she's besotted by them.

Some of us have this cross to bear...

The problem is, Gill is an artist with a particular taste for 1970's style. To her, a car is not a way of getting from A to B, it's a cross between a mobile fashion statement and a craft showroom. Her first car was an Allegro 1300 in yellow, and I've had to support that, and a Vanden Plas 1500 in Denim Blue, as well as UAN767S, over the years. Fortunately they are all now cut up.

After a huge amount of negotiation she agreed to accept an Inca orange 1972 BMW 2002Tii as a replacement for UAN, just on the fact that its three-box shape was to her a style icon of the period. Heh heh! It has a set of fat tyres on oversize rims, and a fantastic rorty exhaust that's so loud I took it to Kwikfit to see where the hole was (there wasn't one). It's not a supercar, but I'm not ashamed to drive the wife's car any longer!

Note the tailor's dummy hands on the wheel, and the plastic flowers on the parcel shelf. This is mild treatment compared to what she did to her Allegros!

thanks so much for that. can't wait to tell Rods. does you're wife go to allegro functions??? wat a girl!!!!

bluto22b 26 October 2002 07:50 PM

Stop takin the pi$$ The Allegro was an absolute stunner in its day. So much so, I nearly swapped the Maxi for one in '76 but I would have missed the folding rear seats (make a terrific bed).
The brown you are referring to was called "russet brown" available from your friendly Austin Morris dealer;) Oh dear showing my age again:D........Blutes

softwizz 27 October 2002 12:43 AM

Southstar, if you like that one how about this one? I used it on the Exmoor run after my unfortunate experience in the STi Wagon the previous day...
