Everyone has mentioned the old man being drunk..If he really did know all that and folk being skeptical as they were back in the day, I would hit the bottle also in disbelief in what I am seeing...just something to think about.

Jerry B 12 September 2001 12:58 AM

Hey Astraboy! for once I agree with you! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif nicely put! - this Nostradamus guy sounds like Dylan off the Magic Roundabout. All sounds like a crock of sh*t to me. Mind you, if the world were full of people stonedtothebone half the time...no...maybe that wouldn't be such a good thing....

Nonetheless, whatever the theories and predictions, whatever the cause, I just feel so sad that human life is wasted so pointlessly - yet again - for whatever reason anyone cares to think up. We really are going to destroy the world eventually. One way or another. Wars, pollution, It's only a matter of time. I'm not predicting it though...just speculating!

Pete_UK99 12 September 2001 10:44 AM

Saw someone posted this but here is the full thing. Very scary!

Nostradamus' prediction on WWIII:

"In the year of the new century and nine months,
From the sky will come a great King Of Terror.
The sky will burn at forty-five degrees.
Fire approaches the Great New City."

"In the City of York there will be a great collapse,
2 twin brothers torn apart by chaos.
While the Fortress falls, the Great Leader will succumb
Third Big War will begin when the big City is burning"

NOSTRADAMUS

He said this will be bigger than the previous two.
2001 is the first year of the new century and this is the 9th month.
New York is located at the 41st degree Latitude.

If you care to examine the date, we would call it 11th September, or
11/9.
Americans reverse this to 9/11, the number of their emergency service.

BobaFett 12 September 2001 10:48 AM

Scary...

zoog 12 September 2001 10:52 AM

That's really creepy.

Lets hope he's wrong about the ww3 bit. At least the Russians are onside, so there shouldn't be a nuclear holocaust.

AndrewC 12 September 2001 11:00 AM

The only quote I could find with reference to Nostradamus' "New City" predictions for century 1 is:

Century 1, Quatrain 87
======================
"Ennosigee feu du centre de terre,
Fera trembler autour de cité neuue
Deux gras rochers long tęps feront la guerre,
Puis Arethuse rougira nouueau fleuue."

"Earth-shaking fire from the center of the earth.
Will cause the towers around the New City to shake,
Two great rocks for a long time will make war,
And then Arethusa will color a new river red."

A bit vague IMHO.

Andrew...

Blow Dog 12 September 2001 11:02 AM

The less people are reminded of the bollox spouted from this drunkard the better.

KF 12 September 2001 11:04 AM

If you are going to quote something, get it
right:
6-96
Great city abandoned to the soldiers,
Never was mortal tumult so close to it:
Oh, what a hideous calamity draws near,
Except one offense nothing will be spared it.
6-97
At forty-five degrees the sky will burn,
Fire to approach the great new city:
In an instant a great scattered flame will leap up,
When one will want to demand proof of the Normans.

carl 12 September 2001 11:05 AM

I agree with Blowdog -- he made so many predictions that some of them are bound to come true, particularly when they're vague enough to be open to interpretation.

JoeyDeacon 12 September 2001 11:05 AM

Even REM forsaw it!

"That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and
snakes, an aeroplane and Lenny Bruce is not afraid.
Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn - world"

"It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign
towers."

R.E.M It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) 1987

It starts with an aeroplane, Eye of a hurricane (Start of 3rd world war) it's the end of the world as we know it, Six o'clock -TV hour (It was recorded by TV cameras and shown on the 6 o'clock news), Don't get caught in foreign towers (World Trade Center). Coincidence I think not! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

I agree. The man spent most of his time ripped to the tits on Absinthe. His predictions are so vague and the translations are so lose, that they can be applied to almost any event. Nobody seems to quote the 3/4 of all his predictions that have never come true.
astraboy.

Pete_UK99 12 September 2001 11:11 AM

He does seem to have got a lot of things wrong (thank God). I just got sent that so not sure how accurate it is. Still this whole situations is very scary.

Maxwell Straker 12 September 2001 11:13 AM

I have to agree.......this Nostradamus stuff should be taken with a very large pinch of salt.

He has never had a prediction of an event correctly deciphered before that event happened. Its a bit like reading your horoscope a day late and saying 'hey, that really happened!!!'

Bird's Nest 12 September 2001 11:13 AM

Absolute bollox. Next you'll be thinking somebody really parted the Red Sea so that he could pop across with a few of his mates.

Kippax 12 September 2001 11:16 AM

Isn't that the pr!ck who said the world would end in the year 2000?

fast bloke 12 September 2001 11:18 AM

Two problem with Nostradamus.
1. He predicted loads of stuff. sooner or later we should be able to make a connection if we use a vague translation.

2. His original work has been largely translated to modern languages using the views and understanding of the translators. This has led to a number of different versions. The most suitable is usually quoted when the need arises. If you don't believe me tell me the meaning of Shakespears simple middle English line
'Wherefor art thou Romeo'

He also predicted the end of civilisation in 1992 caused by the man who wears a cloth. (Saddam) and Armageddon in 1999 or 2000 depending on how you count centuries. AFAIK this didn't happen. He entirely missed the two calander realignments which took place in the 18th and 19th century so all his years would be up the left anyway. The same quote was used last year when scientists discovered that a meteor might be heading our way whith the translation that this was roughly when they discovered it, and also used duing the earthquakes, floods and volcanic eruptions which happened last September. To sum it up I would have to say-
.
.
.
That guy was a true muppet

Adam M 12 September 2001 11:19 AM

With te vagueness of what he has written he has been 50% right in the past, and even then, that is with loose interpretation.

It doesnt appear to make sense as he definitely predicted the end of the world in 1999, why predict beyond that.

It utter rubbish.

Russians and Americans are not they only people with nuclear weapons. In the middle east, Israel is know to have them and god know who else does.

Very scary!

john&nicci 12 September 2001 11:20 AM

Astra boy's right!
Have tried Absinthe meself!
Needed re-potty training!
Evil drink, evil mind:- Ignore all these daft prophesese(sp?), if you spout enough rubbish, some is bound to seem relevant! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif

Scoobychick 12 September 2001 11:22 AM

here's another angle on it....

Say for instance you're an international terrorist and want to create great fear and commit an act to make the whole world sit up and take notice then why not commit it something along the lines of some vague, misinterpreted bollox spouted by some scaremongering, drunken old **** in the year dot?

BTW I'm not for one minute saying this is what happened yesterday - I'm just trying to keep things in perspective and not get carried away by 'the end of the world is nigh' type predictions.

Nostradamus - translation = tosser

Just my intelligent contribution http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif

stevencotton 12 September 2001 11:33 AM

I'd be more inclined to listen to a "Magic 8-ball" than any of Nostradamus' drunken scrawlings.

So it's all down to the b1oody French again then?

Wurzel 12 September 2001 02:41 PM

If you want another "coincidence"...
There was an spin-off series from the X Files called "The Lone Gunmen" The pilot of that series featured (among others) a story line that had a plane being deliberately flown into the World Trade Center!!!

I thought New York was at 41 degree Latitude.

Still thinks its all Bolx myself.

No matter what you say or write some smart 4r5e will translate it & massage it to say soemthing else.
