Hi All
Looking for a simple way to accept payments over the internet. PayPal works a treat except that you can only accept payments in $US which means exchange rates affect the prices we're charging and prices seen on the payment pages are in Dollars. Is there anything similar in the UK? All the best Simon |
http://www.nochex.co.uk any good?
|
I *thought* I got an email from paypal on thursday or friday saying they will be doing transactions in sterling and euro's soon.
Unfortunately it got deleted :( Anyone else got a mail from them ? Presume it went out to all uk account holders.... Steve |

What about Worldpay?
|
A lot of sites use WorldPay - my experience with it has been good, I get monthly CDs from Fabric via WorldPay.

Hi Chaps
Re: paypal changes.. although you can now pay in sterling, it still doesn't look like you can specify the price of an item in sterling. :( Any updates to this would be gratefully received however. Checking out the other links (thank you all).. WorldPay. We used to use worldpay for the original ScoobyShop, but they are very expensive and you need to link it to your merchant account at your bank, etc which adds more costs. The nice thing about worldpsy is that they offer very low transaction fees, and just transfer to your account, without the need to pay merchant account fees. All the best Simon |
ChrisB..used Nochex on many occasions without any probs..well recommended.
|
only problem with nochex is that they only take debit cards, not credit cards.
|
WorldPay (as used by many large UK companies) is prob the best. Not sure about cost though.

It seems possible to use sterling prices and accept Paypal. If you look at the "shops" on the paypal site there are UK based ones quoting prices in sterling. One picked at random http://www.thewitchesway.co.uk/catalog/default.php This was a random choice - honest :D Group buy on crystal balls? [Edited by Silent Monkey - 10/20/2002 8:52:21 PM] |
hehe :)
thanks for finding that.. I spent ages trying to find a UK shop on paypal. Doesn't look like they actually take the payment by paypal though. You CAN send money to them (presumably to pay for your goods) which is easy as you just enter the ammount you want to send (in any currency). The difficulty is to specify a price for a product within paypal in sterling. Cheers Simon |
I just put UK in the search box at the top :D
Sterling and Euros is very new to Paypal, it doesn't seem very well publicised on their site yet. Took me a while to find out how to open a Sterling and Euro account to go with my USD one. Might be worth asking them by mail, but you've probably done that already. |

Just done some digging around on my Paypal account and found this: When launched, Multiple Currencies will be supported in the Send Money and Request Money tabs on the PayPal website. Multiple Currencies will not be available initially for Web Accept or Instant Purchase payments. We are currently developing this functionality and will release it shortly. So it looks like Paypal is out for the time being. No indication of how shortly shortly is - maybe it's their version of a PPP release date. |
My g/f works for Worldpay. Seem to be the biggest company of this type at the moment - whether that is a good or bad thing is debatable. Must be charging a lot as the owner drives a Lambo Murcielago or somedays just a drab Skyline!
Simon, |
Thanks Silent, I appreciate you digging that up :)
P1Fantastic Can she negociate some better rates for us?? :D |
Paypal will support sterling "in the future" after their acquisition by ebay.
The best one to look at is Worldpay. I have some contacts there, and for the sort of volume you're looking at they will build a special deal for you... |
Out of interest, assuming this is for Scoobyshop, surely it'd be easier to set up c/card payment direct, rather than losing a load of commission to Worldpay or whoever?
If you're not sure how, I'm sure Lee @ Titan could give you a few hints. ;) |
Things have changed a bit at PayPal since Simon's first post. They now support UK currency. The problem is that there are still a lot of places where it comes over as americanny, which puts UK buyers off.
Does anyone know of an actual UK based site offering the same services that paypal does? nochex - no good, only do DEBIT cards. fastpay - too complicated and they charge the CUSTOMER for the transaction. Sorry if it's been asked recently, but I did do a search and this seemed the most relevant thread that came up. |
