...not sure what to run?

I was thinkging along the lines of a 205 GTi 1.9 or similier stripped out, roll cage, bucket seats, a few mods ie exhaust, brakes, etc and there you go one cheap track day fun car which you can drive to and hopfully back from a track. But I'm not sure if this would be the best choice of car? I'm not looking to spend much no more than £2k but the car needs to run on unleaded not a converted leaded car (that seems to rule out the pug :()

Does anyone have any idea's?
Cheers

Tim

Mazda 323 4x4 Turbo???

Tim Taylor 18 October 2002 11:51 PM

I don't know anything about the Mazda apart from what it looks like.

Any details on them?

A couple of my mates have 323 turbo's. Old and new shape (323 GT-R) They are very quick and tunable.

I hope the above is useful.

Cheers mate :)

Anything else out there?

Nissan Cherry Turbo. A bit old though.

My cousin had a Cherry Turbo. Very quick, but because of the age it rusts quickly.

(that seems to rule out the pug )
Tim after 1990 the pugs will run quite happily on unleaded. Ran mine for 2.5 years on NUL 95 no problems. :)

Don't go rear wheel drive dude. Rear or 4 is the only way to go.

I'd go for a 200sx. You can pick up an old S13 for under a grand. Very quick and quite light to start with. Another grand will get you some very entertaining power from it. As fast as a standard scoob in a straight line and some excellent tail out fun. Will make the pug look tame :D Mods are common and easy to come by (check out the sxoc BBS), car is easy to work on, and very easy to tune.

(I'd try to sell you mine but i sold it 3 weeks ago)

A few k more could see you sitting in an early westie? Fantastic track car, massive scope for tuning as it doesnt take much to whip out the engine and bang in a lump with more power....

http://www.findit.co.uk There are a few on there mate, enjoy.

Other than that, I'd opt for a 205 as you said, great handling car as standard, uprate the suspension and brakes and they fly on track.

You could try a 309GTi, often overlooked big brother of the 205 :(
for the same price of a 1.9 G reg you could probably pick up a J or K plate 309 ;).

Well I had a 1987 309 GTI which ran to over 130k mostly on normal unleaded (as it was a low miler in the early days) - no problems

Tim

I am looking at doing the exact same thing, but have been told to go for a 1.6 rather than 1.9 as it is a better balanced car. But me thinks the 1.9 will be more fun! :D

I am looking for one at the moment and the first thing I will do is get a cage fitted, remove rear seats, fit harness's etc, then go play! :)

Cheers guys

I'm still in the planning stage at the moment but it may take shape later in the next few months.

It still looks like a 205 for me :D
