morning all
What's better, 10W/50 or 5W/40 for engine oil? I believed Silkolene only came in the former, but they sell both grades at "www.cars.u-net.com", based in Derby. Also, its 30 quid for 5litres. I may be wrong, but I thought Scoobysport only sell the thicker grade (which I was planning to use)? Does this mean its better? PS its for a UK MY00. Please help as my service is due very shortly, and I want to switch to a fully synthetic oil thanks |
Most tuners in the know say that 5w/40 is to thin for the Subaru!!!!!!
Just stick to a very good quality oil,Silkolene,Castrol,Motul etc with a minimun viscosity rating of 10W Hope this helps Darren (Silkolene in an STi)!!!!!!!! |
hi ernie
Subaru actually recommend 10w40 semi synthetic like shell helix. when I,now running my own scooby workshop change oil. seem to be the best for the hydraulic tappets LEN |
The general consensus is that 5/30 or 5/40 as recommended by subaru are not too good for engine life, big numbers are better, I use Castrol RS 10/60, as it was the best available at the garage. Fully synthetic is better, I would never put mineral oil in the Scooby!
