morning all

What's better, 10W/50 or 5W/40 for engine oil? I believed Silkolene only came in the former, but they sell both grades at "www.cars.u-net.com", based in Derby. Also, its 30 quid for 5litres. I may be wrong, but I thought Scoobysport only sell the thicker grade (which I was planning to use)? Does this mean its better? PS its for a UK MY00.

Please help as my service is due very shortly, and I want to switch to a fully synthetic oil

thanks

Most tuners in the know say that 5w/40 is to thin for the Subaru!!!!!!
Just stick to a very good quality oil,Silkolene,Castrol,Motul etc with a minimun viscosity rating of 10W

Hope this helps
Darren (Silkolene in an STi)!!!!!!!!

hi ernie
Subaru actually recommend 10w40 semi synthetic like shell helix. when I,now running my own scooby workshop change oil.
seem to be the best for the hydraulic tappets

The general consensus is that 5/30 or 5/40 as recommended by subaru are not too good for engine life, big numbers are better, I use Castrol RS 10/60, as it was the best available at the garage. Fully synthetic is better, I would never put mineral oil in the Scooby!
