If you can live with the price go for a 'Dry Cell' Optima 'yellow top' or 'red top'

They can take serious abuse and recharge much quicker than a standard battery.

Oh & your system may sound better as well.

Trouble is they are around £100 to £130

My 98MY battery failed last week despite a 120 mile run that day, I guess when a battery has had enough then that's it. It is a 005 battery - Halfords sell them for £49.99, my local dealer sold me some German battery for £49 or could have sold me a Varta one for £70, Lucas (LSUK) quoted about £60 for one, not too bad really for what is a larger than normal batt...

you guys really need to live closer if you're paying £70 for batteries!!!!!!

The next best to Optima always used to be the DELCO range, as loved by sound-off competitors everywhere :D

iain atkins 18 October 2002 10:34 AM

Si,

Either:-

Optima Yellow top - most expensive option circa £165
Xxide Maxima 900 - next cheapest circa £145
Deta Orbital Battery - cheapest circa £130

I think i will be going for the Xxide version myself!!

Still intreged wot difference is between red & yella toped un, even if they r all damn expensive ? So any1 no?
Si

iain atkins 18 October 2002 01:25 PM

OK Si, here you go m8

Yellow top is a deep cycle battery (able to take a lot of punishment i.e. amplifiers, driving lights etc)

Red top is a 'starter' battery, giving better cranking power but cannot necessarily handle the prolonged abuse like the yellow top can.

I believe the yellow top charges quicker as well.

Hope that's cleared it up for you.

Based on your application i would say the yellow top is the better choice.
