Hi there - I'm absolutely new to Impreza's, so bear with me - I just bought a WRX Wagon, 94, Silver, BodyKit, etc. and I have a question. As it's an import, the speedo has been changed to show mph, but only goes as far as. I was tearing along (on a private road!):), and decide to see hoe much I get out of it, but when I got to 110 the engine just...well...seemed to stop until I took my foot off the accelerator, at which point normal driving was resumed...so...I think what I need to know is if the speed is electronically limited in some way, and if so, can I get it removed?!?

Speed limited to 112 mph(180kph)

Your car has cable driven speedo. The good way to sort this is to fit a 5/8ths reduction gearbox inline and use the original 180kph face with a mph sticker on it... this doesn't actually disable the speed limiter, it mearly raises it to 180mph.

Or you could just leave it limited and let it help you to keep your license. although 100+ is a ban anyway these days.

ECU Adaptor from me cost £60.
With this I can set Speed limit to whatever you want (normally 170mph or 200mph) and also remap it to a later WRX Map or a Performance Map (See DIY ECU Remap thread for more info).

Scooby-Newbie,

Congratulations on your purchase, however, it may be a good idea to omit details of where & when you 'exercise' from posts? ;)

Hope you get it sorted,

Enjoy :D

South Eastern Transmissions do a cable convertor. They advertise in Jap Performance magazine. A friend bought one, and it cost about £50. Seems better value than most, and at least you can retain the original clock faces, albeit with a small mph sticker.
