Hi,
My MY01 was delivered with a tank of NUL though I have run it ever since on SUL. The dealer has suggested that the ECU will not fully adapt to the higher-grade fuel without first being reset and that doing this might resolve my perceived shortfall in performance. N.B. this car had the PPP ECU installed by the dealer prior to delivery. Without being disrespectful to the dealer's experience and knowledge, this theory goes against what I have learnt from this group, that ECUs since around about MY99 have been fully adaptive and the ECU reset is only applicable to older models. I'd be grateful if someone could confirm or otherwise! Thanks, Gareth |
Your dealer is talking b*****ks ;)
The MY01 and onward ECU's adapt pretty much instantly to the type of fuel that you have in your tank thus no need to do an ECU reset :D Tony:D |
If you want to prove him wrong, unplug your battery overnight. Next day all will be reset and you can see for yourself.
|
Agree with Tony on this one. You need access to a select monitor / OBD-2 / Delta Dash or similar to reset the new age car- not quite as simple as disconnecting the battery as on the old cars.
hope this helps, simon:D |
and they should have been running it on sul as well naughty dealer.
|
If you disconect the battery do u need to enter a code to get the radio to work, or does it just work as normal???
Cheers ScoobyDoo69 |
From experience the standard radio / cd should be fine.
|
But of course while the battery is disconnected so might be your alarm !!

You might want to let the TRACKER people know as well if you disconnect the battery.
That is if you have one fitted. Arron. |
If you turn the ignition on (fully ie engine on) and off 5 times in a row, this should clear the ECU.

Nice tip Jamie - is that applicable to MY01?
Cheers, Gareth |
Yep only for MY01 it is the only thing that really works on them apart from using a Select Monitor or Delta Dash.
Jamie www.j-w-racing.com |
So does that mean that my MY01 ecu resets itself every 5 journeys ?
Cheers Chris [Edited by warbs - 10/17/2002 12:41:24 PM] |
What do you mean by 5 times in a row ??
Just turn on, let it idle and turn off ?? Gordo Interested MY01 owner. |
Turn the ignition on fully let the idle settle then turn of, repeat 5 times.
|
Jamie, Does this apply to all Subaru Models, I.e the P1..??
|
No just the MY01 onwards.
If you would like the procedure for an ECU reset for previous models please email me as per profile. Jamie www.j-w-racing.com |
Well - I didn't realise Jamie meant actually start the engine 5 times (just seen the last few replies), so I nipped out just now and wasted a load of time switching my ignition on and off... also went for a test run and can confirm it made sod all difference... :)
G |
So now try switching the engine as above, you should see it reset then!
|
I'm gonna go try this tonight.
Gordo |
So I sat in the carpark starting and stopping my engine like a lunatic...
Anyway, no difference observed, but that doesn't mean there wasn't a reset, just that resetting makes no difference on an MY01. Cheers anyway, Gareth |
Well if the question was does resetting the ECU on a MY01 make a difference, then I'd of said:
no unless you wanted to remove CELs or fault codes! ;) :D LOL What it is, I just wanted to see how many of you did it in their car park!!! ;) Also try flashing your lights ten time in a row, beeping the horn 15 times and opening and closing all four windows whilst singing the national athem of Japan! :D :D :D Believe me it really does work! Seriously though turning the car on 5 times, will reset the ECU. |
I just tried that ECU reset, with starting and stopping the engine 5 times in a row, and the CEL didnt turn off!!
I think my neighbours think i'm mad!! ScoobyDoo69 |
Hmmm, it worked for me.
|
I did stop and start 5x thing loads of times to clear a CEL a while back. Then I decided to buy an 02 fix off pete, which was a much better, and easier, option.
in summary, Jamies way of doing it works. hope this helps |
lol @ Jamie "Five Times" Whitfield! :D
You had me out trying your theory in a vain effort to reset the CEL while I wait on the OBDII. Do you have a surplus of starter motors you'd like to clear or is it just an early April fool? Paul |
Damn foiled again!
It reeeeaaalllly does work - honest!!! Delta Dash is easier though! :D |
Think this only works on minor problems IE fuel cut as i have done this on mine a time or two :eek:( will have to sort this out)
also cleared it by disconnecting the battery and pressing brake pedal for 15 seconds. Steve |
