Hi folks, was up in Scotland a couple of weeks back and couldn't find SUL anywhere, running out of pertol quickly i put £5 of normal unleade fuel in and asked the attendant for directions to the nearest station with SUL.
They replied there were none in the local area and that everyone uses LRP now as it has the same Octane as SUL!. Is this the case and would it be better to use LRP in future emergencies. |
no idea about the octane rating but my understanding is that LRP will damage the catalytic convertor so in emergency it is better to use normal unleaded then fill up with SUL asap. dont know for certain though.
The octane rating of SUL and LRP are the same but the LRP has a number of additives that are not CAT friendly. If you were to use LRP all the time it would probably damage the CAT.
thanks folks, i'll stick to normal UL in an emergency
... and if you don't have a cat then LRP will damage the lambda sensor.
Use Optimax if you can, I noticed the difference after 3 tanks. Harder to find but your car will thank you for it!! ;)
