Hi all

seems a silly post but have got new plates with scooby-doo logo from GT graphix (thanx tiny and seriously cool).

I just wondered how to get old one's off and new one's on. The old plates are held on with double sided foam tape. Do I just pull the old one's off and stick the new ones on. Ccan I get similar tape from Halfords? or do I have to drill the new plates and screw them on.

You're gonna have to trash the old plates, then you can indeed get new tape or a bracket with tape on from places like halfords, not a difficult job.

WHOAH boy!
I reckon the old plates will come off by gently passing a length of dental floss,(yes, really!), or similar, behind the plate, grip both ends, and pull it along the length of the plate, with a gentle sawing motion. More difficult to describe than to actually do!
This has the effect of trashing the sticky pad, not the old plate, and stops you from pulling off paint or worse.
The old pad residue can then be cleaned off by soaking it with WD40, or similar, for about 15 minutes, rubbing hard with a paper towel, (this step may need to be repeated, depending on the amount of residue left,) and finally polishing up.
New pads are available cheaply from any decent car shop.

i used the auto glym stuff to clean off, works well.

I agree with Ron, pull the old plates off, start at one end and gently pull towards you.

If difficult to shift, use a hairdryer close to the face of the plates to warm the glue on the sticky tapes and this will help release the plates.

HALFORD double sided number plate pads are first class - saves having to drill your new plates (I managed to crack mine) DOH!.

Thanks for all the help !! looks like a trip to Halfords tomorrow and spending the night with dental floss, auto glym, hairdryer, WD40 etc. I was wondering whether to drill them but looks like sticking them on is the way to go.
