I have had one of these units break down on me and I am not getting anywhere with the supplier or Apexi Japan, it is out of warranty and no one has ever heard of these units breaking down to date, so can anyone help me in getting parts or pointing me to someone whgo could repair or diagnose the fault. I have been in touch with DP Motorsport and they tell me they don't go inside the unit.
Please help if you can.:)

Is that a no then?

Turbo_Steve 17 October 2002 04:41 PM

In what way is it brokened?

alanjack 17 October 2002 08:46 PM

AFAIK the unit has 2 memrory chips, it stores info when manually input, but when you drive the car the unit seems to forget all the info and reverts to standard safe boost 0.6bar.
The car supposed to run 1.4bar

i had mine break down on me same deal!! We need help lads

Turbo_Steve 18 October 2002 01:03 AM

er.....wow and I thought it was all a single IC.
What memory chips are they?

JamesS 18 October 2002 08:39 AM

Are you sure the solenoid is working?

0.6bar sounds like safe running mode to me(if the solenoid fails is should fail open ie the same as running a pipe direct from compressor to wastgate)

I had a new AVCR on and proves this sloenoid is working.

check you havent accidentally put the setting 'off'. on the small menu, you have monitor, setting, and 'etc'.
on setting, you have A, B, or OFF. if you select off, neither of the boost maps are working and the boost is controlled by the actuator alone.

worth a look

Setting B for BOOST:D is what it is set to!
I/we need someone with a knowledge of memory chips/electronics etc:(

bugger eh :(

good luck with it mate.

If you bought the item from England try DP motorsport in Warrington as they are the main Apexi importes and distributors for all their gear.

I have been told by the girlfriends Dad that the two chips to the top left of the board are/possibly the faulty chip/chips. These are the ones that I need to find out how to test them etc...:(

tonymy01 28 October 2002 04:49 AM

Ouch.... is that IC4 fried to a crisp, or is that just some sticky junk on it?
Can you get a better close up of that area to see if the thing can be repaired?
Cheers

alanjack 28 October 2002 05:49 PM

Apparently it is silicon underneath a resistor for what ever reason.

alanjack 29 October 2002 10:28 PM

There must be someone, somewhere;)

Turbo_Steve 30 October 2002 03:07 PM

What is written on the ICs?

If you post the manufacturer, and IC type number someone may be able to tell you what behaviour they should exhibit, and thus how to check it.

I seriously doubt you'll find anyone who fixes Surface mount stuff though. Usually it just goes in the bin. Also: if an IC has failed, it is quite possible it has taken the rest of the board with it, especially if it was a Hybrid CMOS/TTL type.
