My mates looking at the following, the only bad thing about RX7 is where can he get it fixed, parts etc.

Well, the difference in running costs is enormous!!
The RX7 would cost a hell of a lot more to run, so if he wants to choose between the two, I recon pay around £3k less for the RX7 to balance the costs some.

The Civic is uglier, and not as quick, but will hold its value well. Also, you can mod a Civic to a degree, but not as far as an RX7, if thats a consideration.

The Civic thou will be very reliable, and is a lower insurance group, and be lots cheaper to service and run.

Very different cars, and for my money, if he is seriously considering both, Id go sort of half way between em and go for the new Integra Type-R, imported by Litchfield, and given the bits and pieces he specifies.
You get a reliable, good looking, very fast car, that would not cost too much to run, but still not be quite as quick as an RX7, or be quite as good looking (but close), but still be exclusive.

forgotten i'd posted this ;).

Yeah he was thinking about the Integra, the old styles ugly but this ones worse !!!

RX7 is RWD and a sports/preformance coupe, the CTR is a hot FWD hatch. what does he want? cars aren't really comparable.

TomM 16 October 2002 11:56 AM

RX7 all day out of those two!! ;)

Depends on his budget.

For a second car, the RX7 is a good option. Tale happy fun. :D

For a daily driver I would go for a Type R.

There was a thread within the last two days that was asking about RX7's, this gave a few sites of information.

Whereabouts are you, there are a few companies that look after the 7's

Civic Type R is best overall. But for sheer blast ability - RX7.

Get it for the Vtec howl - worth every penny!

I have to say that if I was allowed to run a twin-turbo JDM RX7 then that would be the car for me. The later ones look the business totally and talk about rapid. You think it's accelerating well when the first turbo kicks in, but when the second one comes online a monent later!!!

Problem is that I needed a newer car for work (nothing older than four years) and so my allowance pays for my CTR. Mind you, the iVTEC is totally addictive especially with the exhaust and induction I've fitted to it :D

As a CTR driver, I'd have the RX7!!!

But, then, I've always loved those little nutter cars :D

The CTR is in the bad books at the mo'. Too many crummy faults and rattles. I'm beginning to lose interest fast. It's a great little hot hatch and very fast for the money, but I want an RX8 next. Been thinking about swapping to the 7 until then, but most have nearly 70k on the clock. By 80k you need to have the engine rebuilt and it costs £1500 + VAT!!! That's why most are sold with 70-80k, hoping the buyer hasn't done their homework. Find a low miler and smile all the way to the petrol station (16mpg must hurt!!!)

where from Yorkshire will a normal garage so the work?

bear this in mind if well looked after rx7's will need new rotor tips around 80000 less if miss treated and engine gaskit set is £500
type r motors can get rattly in gearboxes but have no real probs

Rx-7 is a total beast but around town expect about 7 to the gallon.
If things do go wrong then just sell your house bills are huge, Ive just sold one.
