I am trying to take my turbo out, so I can send it away to be rebiult.
It needs a new bearing and seal.

All the bits are off;
Heat shield
Down pipe
Intercooler

All nuts and bolts are undone, but it wil not come out.
There looks like some thing underneath it holding it in place.

I do not have a light in my garage, so I did not want to tug on it to hard, can anyone help.

Have you removed oil and water pipes? Oil return line under turbo requires a bit of pressure to pull off....and a lot of patience to put back on :)

Yep one small oil on the top.
2 water at the side (in and out a guess)
Down pipe.
5ish bolts
so I just tug??

Not being funny but have you removed the up-pipe??

there is a braket between engine lump and turbo that supports the top of the uppipe

Think there are 2 extra bolts on that.

Oil return on underside (should still move if connected though)

I had a look last night and tugging was the answer, it has come out!

It is going to be a nightmare to put back in, can anyone offer any tips?

Having just had my turbo off to replace the up-pipe, there's one thing about this thread which worries me. As far as I remember, I only disconnected two waterpipes (one to the left and one directly underneath the turbo), and one oil pipe to a union on top of the turbo. I don't think there was an oil return pipe, but thinking about it I can't see why not. I can't have missed it 'cos its done 1000 miles since without loosing any oil. The car is a MY98. Does it have an oil return pipe, and if so where?

Yep there is a little solid pipe on the top to get oil into the turbo and larger pipe at the bottem, going to a rubber hose to get it out.
you must have conected it up or it would have coated every thing in oil.

I found the biggest pain was getting the oil return hose back in properly.

Best way seems to be fit a pukka jubilee clip securely to the top of the hose (turbo end) and leave the std hose clip on the bottom and *shove*.

Rest of rebuild is a doddle

Its beter to attach the return hose, with a clip, to the engine side, and put no clip at the top. Because the turbo pipe sleeves inside the rubber pipe, its never going to leak that way anyway. If its going to leak, it will be where the rubber pipe goes onto the engine. Using only a clip on the bottom makes it quite easy to put back together.

I have got the turbo back, it all look really nice.
I have tryed to fit the bitch for 3 hours this morning, not hope, it is the oil return pipe, that I can not get round.

I think I may and remove the clip turbo side.
Does this sound like it may be OK?
