Guys, wondered if you had any thoughts/ opinions on my ecu
its from a 94 STi...

The two wires with the tape on them at the top seem to be bridging
junctions J1 and C362 any thoughts

Just a guess - if there is a zener diode under that insulating tape I reckon someone has put a fuel cut defender on it?

If J1 is being bridged then it's probably been chipped at some point.

If the ECU is chipped an additional device/adaptor is inserted in the 28-pin socket (top left of picture).
To get the ECU to run from this the 0 ohm resistor normally in J1 position is either cut or removed.

As yours is now bridged, I expect the chip was removed by the previous or last Japanese owner. And J1 rejoined in order to get it to run from the standard ECU Map.

I can supply an adaptor/chip to run from the spare socket if required. See DIY ECU Remap thread for more details or mail me off-line.

Agree with scott, the socket is not the standard one, as they don't seem to come with them on the Jap cars.

Thanks for the replies lads, as usual scoobymet comes up with the goods!!.
After reading what you said it has made me think about what happened a couple of years ago at MOT time. As usual with a jap import the car would not pass its emissions, so I had a garage recommended to me in Scotland that would sort it.Gave them the car and hey presto it passed its emissions, but the car has never felt as quick since they got their hands on it. I know this may be a coincidence but they would not tell me what they did to get the emissions down. I had always assumed that they had turned the fueling down somehow , but would the same result be gained by removing the original chip and replacing it with the bridging wire to have the car run on the original map?

Don't know if this is of any help but I still have the pre and post emisssion results.

PRE- CO- 0.425% POST- Co- 0.042%
CO2- 15.4% CO2- 0.042%
HC- 76ppm HC- 67ppm
O2- 0.02% O2- 0.10%
LAMBDA- 0.987 LAMBDA- 0.999

Sorry for keeping up the questions but interested to know your views as the info on the series1 STi's is sketchy enough without garages ripping out (possibly) the updated maps etc from the cars.

Off to read your thread now Scott, will possibly mail you looking for details/costs etc for your chip.

Cheers guys,

Dougie

If the chip that was in the socket was poorly mapped it may well of failed the emissions test.

From what we have managed to download and aquire, some of the early Japanese Maps are not all that brilliant and seem to be a bit hit and miss with the mapping.

The standard 95WRX map tho' is alot better than the 93/94 WRX map.

Hmm, sounds like you need to ask the garage for the chip back!
