Does anyone here use OpenVMS on Vax'es or Alpha's at their workplace?
If so, who do you work for?

Used to use it when I worked for Sema telecom.

Hi,

We have lots - approx 400.

They are mainly used for Banking / TP application servers and
Big ingres database servers

What do you want to know?

Cheers,

Alex

Did C programming on VMS (and quite a bit of VMS System Services programming too) when I was at EDS.

Alex, I'm after a list of companies that use them.

P.S. Is that A T & T you work for?

David,

I think that any FTSE 100 company will still have loads.. they will be or are near to being legacy systems for most, but will be around for a while yet due to the difficulties of porting major mission critical applications to other platforms.

I'll see if I can't dig out some more useful info, e.g. user groups etc - I might be able to put you in touch with some suitable people if you mail me off line.

Rgds,

Alex

VMS legacy, LOL, its one of the most stable os's ever, it does what it does very well, thats mainly enterprise db. The reason there still around is that all the people who run these, banks etc have enough sense not to trust their **** to windows. Open VMS will be around for years to come. PS it was a digital product now owned by Compaq/HP

David,

have a browse around http://www.openvms.org/ which might have a few useful pointers or contacts, or try http://www.decus.org.uk which is the old DEC User Society in it's new, Compaqted (and soon to be Packarded) form.

mb (who spent 19 years at Digital doing a lot of VMS, then Compaq, then TBD!)

Thanks guys,

I might as well confess that I'm an out of work Senior Systems Manager with 20 years VMS experience (yes, its been going that long :) ) but finding decent positions via agencies is proving slightly more difficult than extracting hens teeth. Thought it was about time I should take matters into my own hands and start badgering IT managers/personnel departments etc.

Didn't realise DECUS was still going, haven't been to one of those conventions in years!!!
