how do you know when the MAF sensor as failed? my My00 as been running a but rough lately so wondered if its the MAF???

Without any readings from instrumentation (AFR), it's not very clear. But rough idling (rpm too low) is a pointer. As is your engine exploding

When you say RPM too low, how low do you mean????
Starting to get worried.

Drop it off at the dealer, better safe than sorry!

Mine usualy idles at around 1200 rpm when cold and reduces to 600rpm! It has gone as low as 400rpm but goes back to 600 if accelerator is tapped slightly.
MAF FAILURE??

Cheers

I thought the ecu detects maf failure and goes into limp mode.

fitting a VTA dump valve also causes poor idling, after fitting mine, when coming to a stop the revs drop to about 200 and nearly stalls (sometimes has stalled) but then rises back to normal.

Gez,

The ECU will detect the failure and go into *limp* mode, but it's not that black and white. The MAF is about as grey as John Major :)

I had the O2 sensor fail on me and that gave me dodgy idle. It would rise to 1000+, then drop down to 400, then go straight back up before settling down. This would happen when cold or even pottering about town and stopping at traffic lights.

You need to put the car on a Select Monitor (or Deltadash) to check what the sensor readings for the MAF and O2 are.

Put it on the deltadash a little while ago and it was running ok! I dont know, maybe its me paranoid! I just cant wait to get wrid of the MAF sensor! Getting Link put in beggining of Nov so i can at last fit my HKS induction kit without a worry.
