ok I haven't been on this forum long, I joined in June. IMO it's a great site, I've only just bought a Subaru and I've learnt a lot from this site. But this "my car is faster then your car" type coversations are really starting to get on my tits. You post up a sensible message and in all fairness most of the replies you get are good. Then you get some complete PR**K telling you that you should have got a cossie or an Evo. The fact is these are all great cars and we know that. Obviously a lot of people on this forum buy their cars because they're so feeble as a person that they need a fast car to make them feel big. "Oh my 0.5 of a sec makes my car soooo much better".
Instead of buying a car because they like the car for its overall abilty. I know that it's mainly people having a laugh but give it a rest or put it in the muppet section where it belongs!

I think it's funny.

People loose objectivity and reason when comparing cars for some reason.

I just read a thread talking about how a Lotus Elise is better handling than a Scoob. Therefore the Lotus is better.

THEY ARE 2 DIFFERENT TYPES OF CAR.

A Kart could handle better than a scoob. Couldn't blag your mates at warp factor nine with a boot full of suitcases down to the airport though can it..... Ah !

Pete,
Agree with your sentiments. A lot of criticism is in jest, but the slagging of of the MY01 is wearing a bit thin.
I have learned a lot here in the last few months and really do like the bbs, but there is definate "mine is better/faster etc" thing going on.
Also IMHO there are too many people who beleive what they read in car mags. I have learned over years that the only opinion that matters is my own, and that mags whilst interesting, are not to be taken too seriously (especially Autocr*p).

Pete/Mark

I have an MY01 but really couldn't care what people say about it. Its my car, my choice and I love it to bits. If my car gets eaten alive by an STI then so be it. If I wanted one I'd buy one.

As Pete says alot of the mickey taking is in jest so don't let it get to you. I enjoy a good debate and don't take them too seriously.

Cheers

Nathan..

Hey has anyone heard MY01's are cr@p? http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif

Alas 30 August 2001 11:49 PM

This is the kind of thread I like. Someone has some serious comments to make but you can still have a good laugh. Sometimes I think people take things a little too seriously for their own good. And I'm not just saying this because my dads bigger than yours.

Don't let it bother you. I've got MY99 standard silver uk spec and I love it.

I bought it coz I liked it, I love driving it (took it for one and half hours test drive first). I don't care what anyone else thinks, it's how I feel thats important.

It's fast enough for me to play.

T5NYW 31 August 2001 01:49 AM

What I realy hate is the bloke that say's I'll give you a race, you've got a Scooby!! Then say's He's got a R1 Yamami http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/rolleyes.gif I say O/K and I pick a slow rough windy rough road http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif He says O no I'll fall off Sharp Bends, gravel ETC. Thats not fair http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/eek.gif you cannot compare Scooby/Bike/Evo each have their Forte^.
Who ever choses the circuit / course should win http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Pete,

You will always get mine is better than yours posts. That's what the muppet forum was invented for.

Don't take whats been said personally, 99% of the people are saying what they say to wind each other up. Compare it to friendly banter in a pub when you are winding a mate up about how rubbish thier footy team is.

I used not to like this kinda post, and it's been going on for ages(anyone remember the Harj and Shaun roadshow?) but i've mellowed and now generally ignore them. They get sent to the muppets eventually anyway.

Pete_UK99 31 August 2001 01:19 PM

A lot of people are having a joke and you can tell by the way they write it. But I'm pretty sure there are a few who really are trying to boast at how good their car is. On a similar point Bike V car topics are rather silly too. I'm really suprised at the amount of bike mags that have an R1 V Subaru or similar. WHY, these are two different types of vehicle. Thats like comparing a helicopter to a type of plane. Anyway my rants over, great site though.

Pete
I own a MY00 with a lot of modifications. Always there will be another car better than mine. But the reason that I bought it is to enjoy myself and not to be the fastest.

I always say if in doubt repeat yourself. :-)

How about a "My Other Car's ****" thread.

I'll start the bidding with a '95 Suzuki Baleno 3 door which I used to think was "quite nippy". http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/mad.gif

My helicopter is quicker than your plane

Maz-old 31 August 2001 03:47 PM

Look,

I've a 1984 Escort 1.6 Ghia with 150,000 miles on the clock. I'm slowest alright and I defy anyone to beat me.

And no, WALKING DOES NOT COUNT!

I will put money on it that my Radio Controlled Car is quicker to 40mph than any Scoob on here! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

I HAVE THE FASTEST RC ON HERE!!!!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif LOL

Pete_UK99 31 August 2001 04:03 PM

I used to own a mini. It looked really fast with it's extra wide wheels but it only had a 1000cc. Still it gripped to the road well.

Not so fast, how will it compare to my 3.5cc 30000 rpm RC buggy!! Will beat anything to 60mph!!

Adam M 31 August 2001 04:26 PM

I beg to differ you guys.

Rc wise you are talking to the king.

Used to ahve a high power (5bhp) fifth scale but sold to clarey.

Could be geared for 0-60 in 3 and top end at 100.

But no petrol car wil match an electric flat racer for acceleration.

I have a 12 cell flat racer which will crack 60 in under 3 secs.

But then maxes out.

SO http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/tongue.gif to harj

My worst car was a Talbot Horizon http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/redface.gif

It used to have Duck tape round the windscreen to stop it from leaking and I used to keep a length of hose to drain the water out the floor pan, until I drilled loads of holes in it.

It had a cr4ppy 1.0 litre engine but in 12 months it never failed to start or ever broke down.

Oh the joys of motoring when your 17 http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif
