Has Christian got this mod?
Think I will do it. Cannot do any harm and might be worth an odd bhp or more especially on the rollers where induction temperatures can be an issue.

Harvey

Thats one hell of a lot of 'farts' even to get to 40psi!

Im thinking of getting a few spacers made up at the same time... How many people would be interested in the front entry conversions??

I can also chop and weld your turbo if required...

You can count me for a start.

Top mounted intercooler.... some subaru engineer needs a good slapping for that one. :D

NotoriousREV 08 October 2002 11:43 AM

How much? I might buy one in for future use (if you include a voucher for the turbo chopping to be used at a later date) :p

BazH 08 October 2002 11:43 AM

I'd defo be interested in spacers :)

Hi,

You already know my interest in this mod.... do you have a feel for the spacer prices yet?

Tony

David_Wallis 08 October 2002 01:04 PM

no no prices yet... but would expect to be less than £50. Dependant on material, thicknesses and quantity..

David

Tone Loc 08 October 2002 01:06 PM

Sounds good to me..... i'll have a chat with you hen i come up for the ECU. Hopefully this weekend :D .

Tony.

DAVID,
HOW DO I GET IN TOUCH WITH YOU REGARDING
TD05 TURBO.? YOU MAY GET A FEW SILLY QUESTIONS.
THANKS

David: Something I am thinking about. What material? What thickness? Can existing studs/bolts be retained or are longer required? Is there a risk of distortion of the I/M caused by high torque spots beneath each fastener? Depending on the insulation gasket material used is there a risk of degradation in time because of the extreme heat and cooling cycles?
Despite the above I am very interested if these possible problem areas were resolved. I have an almost immediate requirement.

Thick question time------Whats this "raising the inlet" mod all about then??????

Harvey...

I dont claim to be clever or in the knowledge.. All i know is lower inlet charge temp... then better!

AFAIK you cannot distort the inlet manifold / head by using a spacer, 2 gaskets and longer bolts... you only usually get distortion etc by head lift etc...

Theres a risk of degredation with anything.. im open to suggestions for a materail.. tufenel and phenolic are mentioned so far...

David

top... and not looking worth it yet.

pban 11 October 2002 12:42 PM

David

I would be interested.

Paul

David,

I might be interested in just the spacer, but for the later version phase 1 manifold, if only for the purposes of reducing conduction of heat to the inlet manifold.

How thick are you thinking?

David_Wallis 11 October 2002 01:41 PM

Im hopefully getting hold of a phase 2 manifold soon...

either that or gaskets... so I can do phase 1 and two...

for front entry I was thinking 20 / 25mm for insulating was thinking about 10mm..

David

dowser 11 October 2002 01:50 PM

I'd be interested....but I already have some material here waiting to be cut and fitted :)

john banks 11 October 2002 02:25 PM

Is this for thermal insulation or is it to give room for a large inlet pipe? What will it do for me apart from skinning my knuckles ;) ?

David_Wallis 11 October 2002 02:33 PM

both or either... john speak to andyf and he will discuss it with you in person better than I can on here.

David

Adam M 11 October 2002 05:14 PM

david I have to be careful,

8 injectors will mean upper fuel rails running very close to relocated inlet pipe into turbo.

Raising it 10mm could create problems for me, so I will have a look at the final build when it is done and consider if I can get away with it.

Have to ask if I really need the power it might release? I suppose it does reduce chance of det marginally.

David_Wallis 11 October 2002 07:30 PM

call me stupid.. -- In advance.

But im also thinking of wrapping all my inlet manifold in exhaust wrap.. and maybe the Intercooler pipes, Worth a try I suppose??

Are your Rails going to me like marks?

If so I would have thought they would raise 10mm (mind you if he had checked to see if his would fit first :p)

David

Crusty 12 October 2002 05:52 AM

I'll be fitting a pair of these when the fuel mods are being done..

David is this still a goer or was there not enuff interest - great RR results by the way

Barry

David_Wallis 28 October 2002 02:19 PM

it will be soon... not really enough interest for the hassle... so I'll enquire and then post a new thread.

David

Tone Loc 29 November 2002 12:26 PM

Anybody still interested in this?

Tony.

Andy.F 29 November 2002 12:36 PM

Me :D :D

Tone Loc 29 November 2002 12:52 PM

You've already done it!!!!! Btw Andy, what size spacers did you use and what diameter inlet pipe?

Tony.
