I have a MY99 which has had 3 replacement engines under wtee
since Nov 2001. See other postings for more info on this!!

A symptom noticed prior to failure and every so often,
it a noticeable drop in power and the turbo hiss changes
and is quieter.

Ive had new turbos, engines, pumps, heads, ECU, injectors, etc.

The other day, I had the power loss for 20 mins, 6 miles, 40 to 70 mph. Never had it for this long before. Engine turned on and off a few times and eventually it cleared itself and was perfectly ok for no reason. No smells, leaks, over heating, or odd noises of ANY kind at all, before during or after..!!

Dealer said that oil vapours may have got into Boost Control Valve/Solenoid and that sometimes they fail too.

I have had No Mods and do not want to bypass with
bleed valve or Dawes or the wtee will be invalid.

Has anyone had problems with this control device or
anything similar that affects the boost levels ??

Has anyone got a technical explaination as to how such a device may drop the boost, etc and how this may lead to power loss and eventually a hole in the piston...?

Cheers,

MKC (quickly disliking Imprezas......as
I must have the worse one in the country)

PS: I have done another 2500 miles (hours and days) of high speed/rev driving prior to this since last engine run in and
had NO symptoms at all, so unlikely to be a hole in a pipe or anything simple like that...

Could be as simple as the ecu entering safe mode (reduces boost)? Any CEL's?

MKC,

You're starting to worry me a bit 'cos my solenoid valve seems to be clicking away for itself (other post in drivetrain), leading me to believe that it's on it's way out & am worried about it after reading your post.

Regards

Johny.

My solenoid has always clicked away to itself at anything other than idle, no problems as a result, I reckon it's when it stops clicking you have a problem!

Mine has never clicked...!!
