Power depends on the size of turbo and what boost you run at.

You are trading lag, boost threshold and transmission reliability, and probably engine longevity for performance.

Really depends on what you want to spend and how much power you are looking for and with how much reliability.

Look at the dyno site for ideas of what others have done and the results. Note that Powerstation reads low compared to the other dynos, so your figures are not bad at all at present.

Have the above with full decat and dawes and unichip, fitted at PS, made 251bhp and 243lbft.

Now want some more power and was advised that an uprated turbo is the only way to go.

What sort of power can i expect, and pros and cons as well,

Cheers

Rottie.

John,

just would like not to lose the power at the top. Had a Hybrid on my old cossie and that was to laggy ( nothing till 4k) and then wheelspin !!

Thinking of spending a grand or so but do not want to increase engine damage. So am i better off staying with what i have now (1.1bar dropping to near standard at top end.

Cheers

Rottie

The turbo I got from Mark Aigin might fit the bill. It is a VF28 hybrid which reaches 1.25 bar at 3200 RPM and can hold this to the red line. The standard injectors just cope with an uprated fuel pump. It is laggier than a TD04L but the torque is worth the wait. I think it would be quite happy at 1.25 bar with a TMIC, I run it at 1.5 bar (it is rated to 1.8 bar but the internals of the engine aren't!) with a FMIC - still on standard injectors, clutch, gearbox for now. At 1.25 bar I gather Tim Whiteside got about 350 BHP with a FMIC at PE. If I go any further I would want to do the internals and go for an uprated gearbox, which I reckon would polish off a good £5000 at least, and then I would want a bigger turbo and the cycle would continue. Since I don't want to spend this much on it, I'll see if it breaks at the current level, otherwise I'll enjoy it for once :D

John

Is yours not a hybrid VF23?

Alan

No it is a 28 Alan, with a P18 housing. I wouldn't want it any bigger on this 2.0 litre engine. I am getting enough cool air at the top to keep it interesting without (hopefully) breaking anything, and certainly it feels very torquey now :D
