Just got my brand new WRX PPP. Have been told i should upgrade the brakes so i emailed my dealer who said, 'prodrive 300mm brake upgrade £1700' !!!!!!!!!!
DO i have any other 'affordable' options? another one they said is around £500 with front disc upgrade but with same calipers. What should I do? |
For 1700 quid you can get an AP 6 pot upgrade with 330mm discs etc, try giving Scoobymania a call ;) (www.scoobymania.co.uk for contact info ;))

Yep - quite a few options are open to you for £1700. The AP Racing 6 pots do seem to be regarded as the best for the money. I know Scoobsport offer some larger discs + 6 pot calipers (KAD).
The cheapest but still well regarded kits seems to be from Godspeed. Check the brakes forum as IIRC there is a Groupbuy on at present. Obviously the Subaru ones are warrantied which is always good - not sure what cover you get with any of the other after market kits. Simon. |
I think you two missed the point. Mr Bee doesn't want to spend £1700. Sounds to me like Godspeed is the way forward.

Yes, i don't really want to spend £1700!!! Can you please advise on what would be a cheaper solution? Thanks!

Depends on whether you'll be taking it on a track, and how heavy you are on the brakes on road. Drive it for a bit and make up your own mind. Also, if cost is an issue, don't forget that you'll be able to sell your original setup for cash to subsidise the cost of the new kit.

I won't be taking it on a track but want something with a little more braking / bite
FRONT DISC UPGRADE (SAME CALIPERS) £470.00 FITTED UPGRADED BRAKE PADS £165.00 FITTED this is the dealer recommendation, what d'you reckon? |
JB,
you will only retain your warranty fully if you go with the dealer upgrade, however, witha similar outlay you can have a Godspeed 335mm kit, which uses the standard calipers, with brackets to move them out so they can work on the bigger disc, you also have a choice of pad, you can rest assured that if you go for grooved ONLY discs, and you don't do any track stuff, that you'll not have any trouble with them, might be worth checking out the insurance aspect as-well. Ron, (user of Godspeed discs) |
Due to the fact that i've purchased from new I don't really want to invalidate my warranty - but what i want to know is: Will i notice any difference with the front disc upgrade?

The godspeed kit is excellent VFM, tremendous stoping power, i'd call the dealer and put the godspeeds past them, they're bound to err you twds factory kit (as this is how they really make their £!) GK (starter of current godspeed groupbuy) |
