Hi there, Today was the first time that I've driven my scooby 98 sport in really heavy rain. It seemed that the engine was missing (I did look in the engine bay and it wasnt there !) but seriously - check all leads and they were all ok, but everything was damp - I am used to my Mini missing whenever it gets more damp than fog ! - but this is a "modern car" and I thought this kind of thing just didnt happen these days - anyone else had a similar problem. Should I let the scooby garage know - it still has warranty - cheers - Phil

hi phil, never noticed it in mine so get it checked out.

How many miles has your sport done, you may be interested in reading the engine noise post in drivetrain.

It drove fine on the way home tonight John, was dry and dark - great new for where I live - cos in the summer you cant see the cars coming round the corners in the North York Moors - it makes my drive home at least 2 minutes quicker - that was in my souped up mini - so cant wait for the summer to come to see what my Impreza times compare like

Philip

I have had a similar problem in the last week or so, my Car surges and misses at speed in heavy rain, accelerating up a hill on the A27 it was really bad, it was quite a regular surging.

It was far too wet to get out and look under the bonnet, but driving home in the dry the car was fine again, my car is a 94 legacy GT-B.

Flat-4's seem to do this. My mates Alfa 33 has the same problems.

Philip!

Well mine goes faster in the rain (free I/C water spray etc.) http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

Don't suppose the "rubber glove over the distributor" that we used to do to Minis in my youth works on a Scooby? Ah well http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Not tried it on the Scoob, but on various other cars I've owned wait for a dry day get the engine nice and warm to get rid of any moisture, then spray electrics with a spray sealant, most manufactures of goop do one (i.e Holts etc.) workrd a treat on the mini. Mind you also had a surgical glove over the distributer http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

Funny shaped rubber glove as there's no distributor! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Coil packs are mounted directly on the plugs by the look of it (which means that only the low voltage cables are exposed which doesn't usually cause as many problems) So it looks like the plug packs will have to come out to be sprayed with sealer - Does anyone know how difficult it is to get the plugs out, looks like a real b****r of a job as there seems to be very little room. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/confused.gif

The only other problem is that the dry days only seem to be during the week and it seems to rain every weekend http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

Rubber glove was on the mini, should have seen the look on the docs face when I asked her if I could have one http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/wink.gif

p.s. plugs are a git to get out
