I think when the stakes get raised from the speeding conviction to Dangerous driving then this can carry a prison sentence.
I should imagine you would have to be doing some seriously silly sh1t to get put away tho.

No I havn't :D

They gotta catch you first mate. :)

alcazar 30 September 2002 10:59 AM

Oh they'll catch you, don't worry about that.
Let's not forget that the police have got Imprezas that can catch 200+mph motorbikes now.LOL :D:

Someone I know narrowly avoided prison for doing 147 in a 30 limit in his Sapphire Cosworth. The only thing that stopped him going down was that he was being chased by an unmarked car that didnt have any lights on during the pursuit and as such he thought he was being chased. His arguement of "when you (think you're) being chased you go as fast as you need to in order to get away"
was what stopped him getting clinked up, still got banned IIRC though.

Some years ago someone was put away for 130mph on the A414 Harlow to Stanstead Abbotts stretch (dual carriageway, national speed limit and straight for a lot of it). Of course I don't know the exact circumstances, but it seemed a bit severe IMHO.

Someone I used to know got community service, 12 month ban, and re-test and a kicking from the coppers, about 10 years ago when he was young and daft.

It took 4 police cars and two police motorbikes to stop him, and they only got him because he turned down a dead end street.

He was in a Modded mk1 golf, and had had a couple of beers.
It was his own car though!

About the same time there was a student that decided he could drive off with a bus full of passengers while p!ssed up, he got off with a fine!

How times have changed (for the better). Used to work for a car rental firm and we had a BMW M5 demonstrator. Colleague got stopped on the M4 doing approx 146 mph - Police warned him not to do it again  - this was a long time ago !
