Fitted my dawes yesterday:) set the boost at 0.90 bar:) the clutch gave up yesterday afternoon:( It starts slips at around 4,500 - 5,000 rpm.
Anyway, knew it would go but my question is, where do I get one fitted?, and what price will I be looking at for fitting alone?
I know i'm gonna pay around 400 quid for the clutch. Has anyone bought a clutch off of Rally Design? I'll ring em tomorrow to see if they do one for it. I've used them before and they are cheap as they supply the trade.

james whats your year and model? Incidentally what mileage is on the clock?

It's a 94 WRX with 125,000 kms (about 75,000 miles).
Guy I bought it off changed the clutch to a standard one a couple of years ago.
I think it had an uprated one on before he bought it coz I know he put it back to standard, took off HKS Hyper and it's got Kaaz diff's in it.
But I'm very rapidly modifying it again:)

Just been reading another thread and am wondering why my clutch is slipping.
Thought it would happen, but checked my blitz digital boost gauge which holds the max boost reched and it was 0.92bar :rolleyes:
The clutch, like I say was replaced bout 2 years ago and the car was standard for this time covering prob 20,000miles at most.
Reading other thread Moles Dad says his uk99 is running 280-290bhp which I suppose is more than 0.92bar, prob somewhwere in region of 1.2bar??, and his clutch is fine with 61,000 miles under it's belt.
I have noticed the bite point to be right at the top of the clutch travel recently, would this be adjustable?

Well guys, I just had a new clutch (AP Organic), as well as new flywheel and new release bearing. Fitting only came to £150 ( as quoted ), but the parts came to nearly £700.

Usually the release bearing will need changing, the flywheel may or may not, but if you leave a clutch thats clearly failing on too long you will almost certainly end up damaging the flywheel, as I did. Some people say skimming the flywheel is an option, some say if it's cracked then skimming is a waste of time. In the end, I opted to change for new, you may also want to consider a lightweight flywheel. I didn't bother, as lighter flywheels can be troublesome in stop/start traffic.

Another thing to bear in mind, the syncromesh on the gears can also be affected by a failing clutch - I've got away with it, but I'd hate to consider the cost of a gearbox rebuild ! :D

Turned out I would've been better going to you Mark, but it needed doing on short notice. Oh well...

£250.....You're joking. That's outrageous.

It's not a problem about the clutch, just wondered about the F/W, because £700 seemed like a lot for an AP and stock F/W.

"Short notice", "next day" is usually quick enough for most people :D

I fitted a boost controller on my 98 sti set up at 1.7 bar
after 100 miles the crank started knocking then it went BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hmmm... 1.7 bar, eh ? ... can't understand why the crank went .... :rolleyes:

Probably a big end, or a rod, or a piston. Doubt the crank has let go.

I am in the same boat: My clutch does not slip but it judders like a jelly elephant when it is cold, and the bite is so near the top you can breathe on it to change gear.

I am guessing I need a new clutch (damn! this one is only 7000miles old, and the car is standard!) and most probably a new flywheel. The gearbox is showing symptoms of wear as well.

Anyone got any price guidelines for me? I will pretty much travel the country for a sensible price.

Still drives though! Damn these scoobies are cool!

Alot depends on how you want to proceed - if all you want is something to replace your existing clutch, and your running normal power ( and don't plan to tune at all ), then several Subaru breakers offer clutch kits at reasonable prices.

If you need something able to handle a bit more "beef", then an AP clutch should be considered, or even better, e-mail Mark(R19KET) about the clutch's he can supply. My clutch assembly was fitted by ProSport in Stockport, if you look in the "Dealers" section you should find references to them - they fitted the lot to my car for £150. See what they can do for you.

It's an organic uprated clutch which comes with the cover, plate and release bearing, stronger than an AP and cheaper!, 434.75 delivered! Just thought I'd do some advertising for Mark as he was keen to help:)
As I said before though guys n girls anyone know somewhere near me (ashford, kent) that can fit the clutch for around 150 quid, as upposed to the 315+vat I've been quoted???:rolleyes:

Just ordered a Borg and Beck performance clutch for £130 + VAT and delivery.

Having it fitted on Wednesday along with a SS Downpipe so will let you know what I think of it.

For that price you can't go wrong and it has a 2 year guarantee :D

WOW.....2 year guarantee on a clutch, that's fantastic, you don't have a source for tires do you :D

Where did you Source that Borg and Beck Clutch from £130 sounds very cheap. Is it stronger than the stock clutch ?

130 quid parts and 150 for fitting... sounds good to me... think i'll be needing one very soon. Where about did you get the Borg and Beck?

sorry.. meant to ask.... did any of you guys get a nasty burning smell and a crunch going into reverse when you're clutch was about to go?

My clutch is dying slowly (cos I am trying to hold out to next month without changing it) so it started crunching into reverse.
Then into third.
Then second gear became intermitent.
Then first started crunching too.
Then quick changes into 4th became sticky.

In fact...I really hope I don't have to buy a new gearbox any time soon.

A Borg & Beck clutch for £130? Is this really better than the standard item?

My clutch is only 10,000 miles old, so I am deeply worried about my flywheel. Any cheap ones of those around?

Yeah my clutch hasn't lasted two years, and it hasn't done loadsa miles, i've ordered a new flywheel (billet) coz I know with my luck when they take the clutch out they'll only say I need a new flywheel.
Just toying with the idea of putting my standard diff back in the front while the box is off:rolleyes:
Want the better handling of the Kaaz diff in there but the noise and pulling at low speed is a pain:(

So do these borg and beck clutches exist or is someone having a laugh? If so...any part numbers would be great so i can get one!
