80 miles to go before the thick oil goes in the new Scoob (I'm not a technical man.)

Looking forward greatly to being able to continue the Turbo experience that begins at 2800/2900 rpm, beyond 4000 rpm.

Does it get even better in the run to the red line?

It will take 5000 miles to loosen up noticeably. Personally mine got better and better up to about 15000 miles, and now it really flies!

I feel mine loosened up nicely at around 20,000. Obviously you don't notice these things as each day passes. But I do the same routes quite often - and at this time it was going in gear nicely and making nice noises. It just felt comfortable. Whatever that means.

Now at 30,000 its still the same just some things have loosened up that I didn't want http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif Like squeeky interior.

All this talk about loosening up has left me wondering how long it will be before my new MY00 will feel as fast/loose as my current MY97 (51k on clock).

My 99my has now done nearly 6k and is just starting to go really well, it was as tight as the proverbial ducks arse when it was new, and consequently dog slow. I was really disapointed, after driving many older models I thought I'd bought a turkey, but its now getting better and better........

I was going to change it every year, but its taken me 6 months to get it going, so that would mean having to run a new car in every year and I don't know if I could stand another six months of tight Impreza Turbo syndrome!!!! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/frown.gif

In my experience (Finished run in middle of January)the running in oil seemed to be thicker as the performance up to 4000rpm was much better after the service and then when you go above that well its actually quite scarey for the first few times. Choose the road carefully and beware if its wet (you can wheel spin a four wheel drive car, especially in first with loads of revs!!!)

I drove my car hard from day 1 after it's first service and I reckon it's done it good.
I've now done 45,000 miles and countless track days over the last year, and the engine just seems to get better and better.
Wonder how long it'll last????

1 month to run in.

I live in London and have probably done equal city,motorway and A road driving ( and have been careful to achieve a reasonable mix.)

Dipped over 4k rpm slightly on a couple of occasions.

Impressions

1. once on the move staggeringly quick at adding more speed. e.g. 50-70 in 4th gear even when not exceeding 4k rpm (previous car 306gti6 so I am familiar with performance.)

2. cold start - wonderful noise especially when in dealer showroom on pick up day.

4.great noise at all other times even with standard exhaust pipes.

3.surprisingly refined especially on the motorway

4. great seats

5. very easy to not notice your speed

6. you will think you are towing other drivers, as they all stick to your rear bumper

7. feels very special certainly more than £20,950.

8. gets lots of admiring glances. Not many Scoobs in my immediate neck of the woods.

9.feels muscular

You should NOT run an engine in at constant rpm / load ie 65mph on M25 as this will leave specific wear patterns on the engine.

You should cycle speed / load within 4000rpm gently ie 60-75-60-75 etc etc.

It should also be progressive ie very gentle when new, slightly harder when at 1000miles and so on..

Cheers, James. Most of my travel is on the motorway - 20 miles + 5 miles on A road so I guess I need to be careful with the speed / rpms.

Ed - I am surprised by your comment about the noise. I actually want to fit an SS back box straight away.

Is this a good idea though? Is it better to run-in first?
