I realize that this is perhaps not the best forum, but I think I settled for the APS kit and would ideally want one before I get rid of my Unichip & get Ecutec'd.

Anyone have them in stock or could ship them to me (Belgium) ASAP ?

As to make this a bit more genuine for drivetrain... I notice that whith the colder days/mornings now I still see a substantial increase in performance. Is this normal, or does this mean the FMIC is still not working optimally ?

Ta,

Theo

Hi Theo,

John Banks was here and did a Tek 3 for my car which has the APS induction kit and the VF23 and he has done a remarkable job. He has worked out the MAF calibration so as the car runs the perfect fuel mixture. No more lean running for my car with the APS kit. :D

As for the cold morning performance, I believe it's normal for the car to go better cos the ambient temps are lower. Even though the FMIC does drop charge temps considerably in warm weather, IMHO there is nothing like the dense early morning air for optimum performance even though you have the FMIC. The ambient temps are lower in the morning so with the FMIC on your car the intake temps remain lower too.

Cheers,

George.

I'll second Wrexy on that one :)

Colder, denser air is still the biggest power increase for free.

Good luck with ya 'getting the APS'.

Im sure you are aware from reading here about the adverse readings that the APS gives the AFM. Just something to think about, before you say that it is really worth it. Is the APS kit really all its cracked up to be??? I doubt it.

EvilBevel 29 September 2002 08:31 AM

Thanks for the replies guys. I contacted Jamie.

Stevie, I don't know, but I can only go based on the little information that goes round in my confused head :)

What I like about the setup is that it doesn't pick up air from the engine bay. I did see the threads about the MAF effects, but in fairnes they do state on their website you need to remap to take that into account. And actually most induction kits do see a change in MAF response, especially at lower RPM.

I had bought the GGR/MacsPower large K&N kit, but there's just no way I can fit that into the engine bay :( And the cold air box I once bought (carbon fiber ! ;) ) which sits over the induction kit doesn't fit either ...

Another thing to look out for is making sure not too much water gets into the wing where the filter resides.

I'll keep you posted on how it works on my car (as I did with the Pace FMIC) and try to be as objective as possible about it.

Off to (finally) lagging my FMIC to throttle body pipe now :)

EvilBevel 29 September 2002 10:51 AM

Done...

First wrapped a bit of exhaust wrap on the pipe, then covered with aluminium reflective tape.

Does this look right (I know it looks tacky ;) ) ?

Stevie,

John Banks has worked out how to get around the MAF problem with the APS induction kit. He has done it on his car and now on my car and he is very happy with the results. We have done numerous amounts of tests with Delta Dash and are convinced that there is no problem now.

My car's O2 sensor readings are now 0.885/ 0.89 volts, compared to 0.86 volts before the remap and there are no funny fluctuations.

John will probably post more on this, I believe tomorrow.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Theo it looks kind of cute :D Reminds me of Andy F engine bay with lots of exciting stuff going on :) I hope it goes well. WREXY's VF23 even in Greek heat pulls very well at the top. How are your injectors doing? Must get a digi camera and will post some pics of my setup (+ nice catch can going on today :D :D :D ) It is so shiny it will make the engine bay look really tarty next to the DV.

Yes you just stretch the fuel map or MAF calibration - hardly anything at 1V and about 0.3V at full flow.

WREXY 29 September 2002 02:24 PM

John,

It feels weird. Yesterday you were here and today your there. :D

I thought you weren't going to post till tomorrow. Ah the Scoobynet craze. Can't keep away. LOL. ;) :D

Cheers,

George.

Looks good EvilBevil.

The best bit is it should actually make a difference.

You can get Self adhesive foil tape from various places.

Evil,

Where has your Power Steering fluid cooler gone? Its not in the conventional pace fmic location, and it looks, from that picture, like it may be mounted pretty near the intake.

Moray

EvilBevel 30 September 2002 07:51 PM

Moray, you got me there, but something tells me this is related to this car being LHD ?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't moved though.

MorayMackenzie 01 October 2002 02:01 PM

seeing that the ps pump is in the rhd location and the feed lines are in the same location, I dont see why the cooler wouldn't be in the normal rhd location... after all, the fewer bits that differ between lhd/rhd variants, the less the expense and hassle to the manufacturer.

It looks almost as though the ps cooler has simply been removed.

I'll have a look in my service manual when i remember... now i am curious.

It looks almost as though the ps cooler has simply been removed.

Now you got me worried...

EMS 02 October 2002 08:58 AM

That explains the lower price of the car overhere! ;)

Mark.

MorayMackenzie 02 October 2002 12:56 PM

lol at ems. :)

EvilBevel 02 October 2002 01:15 PM

Mark, did you nick it while I wasn't looking ? ;)

Fitted the APS cold air kit in March and in 10 mls no2 piston had picked up the bore. Very expensive re-build required. No satisfactory response from APS but I now realise the C.A.K. caused the engine to run very lean so this system should only be used in conjunction with some form of mappable ECU or re-map.
I was fitting mine in advance of a Link from BRD. Clearly the MAF Sensor was confused and unable to deal with the changed air flow. With the Link the maf was discarde and that is the only reason the APS CAK remains on my car.
Very disappointed in APS not least because I gave them a full written report accurately detailing my experience in the hope I would save others a similar expensive fate but the Ostrich sand mentality prevailed.
I now see that others on here have shown the large scale difference these kits on their own can make despite the fact that the manufacturers who should have known the true situation from the outset and before the kits were put on the market claim wrongly that the effect is only 1/2 an A/F point weaker. COBBLERS.
You have been warned. Even their UK Agent took the CAK off his car after fitting it initially although I think it is back on now with aUni-chip re-map.
A copy of my report to APS in March is available to anyone who wants it.
