Damn Damn Damn. So I went in the back of someone. Am I annoyed with myself or what !
So I reckon I was doing about 10mph when I hit this people carrier. Bumper pushed in and down a bit. Bonnet front pushed back about a foot.
Is it likely that this sort of impact would cause any structural damage which would put me off buying the car ? This is currently a Co Car which I was going to buy off them in about a months time. Any thoughts ?

stevebt 26 September 2002 09:32 PM

the front end of a car is never a cheap one because of lights bumper, bonnet, air bags etc as long as its done by some who knows how to put write offs back together again there is no problem its only when you start going to people who THINK they know what they are doing you wil get into problems, if its an impreza and both air bags are deployed your looking at £1600 before you start on any other parts ask a professional for a repair quote before you buy

nichop 26 September 2002 09:38 PM

Well the airbags didn't deploy so I guess I wasn't going that fast. Hopefully this means that, whilst it looks bad the actual underlying damage is minimal ?

get a price from some one who knows this type of repair my car has had a bash but drives like a dream becasue the right person done the repair, but i had to take the car off someone as they kept it for 9 months and did noting so i lost 1 years depriaciation on the car mines a my00 model so here a few prices off the top of my head
head lights 140 + vat each
bonnet 120+ vat
front bumpber skin 120 + vat
wings 70+vat
recon rad 105

then theres grill, air con rad, side lights and hope the car starts because of certain front impacts it damages the valves on two of the cylinders

It is highly unlikely that you have done any serious damage that a proper bodyshop would not be able to put right, given your comments.

nichop 26 September 2002 11:14 PM

nichop 10 October 2002 04:16 PM

Incredible. Just spoken to repairers. Car will be ready on Sat. Total bill is around £5000 !!!!!!! How can that be possible ?

stevebt 10 October 2002 05:02 PM

if you went to main dealer what do you expect! my car had a roll with parts and labour it came to £6000 and the person who did it is great i challenge anyone to tell its a write off even the drive is like new

nichop 10 October 2002 05:08 PM

the repairs are being done by an RAC authorised repairer, not the dealer. I take it your repairs were not done by a dealer ? Guess it surprises me when, from what I could see of the damage it was not that great. Maybe there was more damage under the bonnet :( On Sat will get breakdown and will be interesting to see where its all gone.

stevebt 10 October 2002 05:56 PM

every panel was damaged on my car, going to get it off the hpi list in a couple of weeks the guy who done mine is realy good and thats all he does

barge 10 October 2002 06:18 PM

how the hell are you going to get it off the HPI list, I thought that once a car was on that list because it had been written off it stayed there so that the next buyer could check if the car had been in an accident

stevebt 10 October 2002 07:50 PM

it comes up as condtion inspected, with certificate from hpi saying vehicle meets all standards, my car was repairable just insurance company chose not to so i did

bluto22b 10 October 2002 08:15 PM

Don't want to sound negative here mate, but Bodyshops NEVER have the car ready when they say. Having had 3 repairs over the years and heard stories of others they are never on time owing to the nature of the type of work. If the car is ready on Saturday I will dismantle the interior of my car and eat the parts one by one :D

jods 10 October 2002 08:40 PM

£5000 without airbags sounds about the mark.

nichop 10 October 2002 10:42 PM

I'll let u know Bluto22b :)

Chrisgr31 11 October 2002 12:04 AM

I had a bill of £1,500 plus parts when scroats tried to break into mine. Needed new front door lock and spoiler and bootlid. Suppose the two new tyres added a bit!

Some **** reversed into the front of mine a couple of months ago f*cked the bumper, foglight, headlight and knocked the wing out of alignment. I took it to three bodyshops, one recomended by my dealer, one by the guy that hit me (apparently he's a regular customer :-) and one that my insurance company told me to use. Quotes were 2500, 2000 and 1100 in that order. Went with the third and you would never no anything had happened. Just go's to show shop around, there are a lot of rip off merchants out there.

Flat 4x4 11 October 2002 12:22 PM

Bluto

How are you going to eat the steering wheel ?
Seat trim and headlining fair enough....

nichop 11 October 2002 07:41 PM

Bluto22B, I want to see the whole lot down in 1 !!!!! Gor car back today, 1 day EARLY :)

Looking over car, one thing i've noticed is that the bonnet down one side stands proud of the wing. Ok at the front and progressively getting worse as u head towards the windscreen. Now don't remember this from before the accident but I might have missed it.
How good is the panel fit on these cars ? Could this be a slighly badly formed panel or more likely bad workmanship by the bodyshop ?

stevebt 11 October 2002 08:03 PM

get the bast**d back to the bodyshop and say something for 5k you should be a happy chappy
