Driving home got a silver 106gti on my arse. Eventually i bit and booted it in 4th right round to 6500 just before i came off slip road. Only put about 6 car lengths between me and him:D.

He carried on and it was certainly modified, twin centre exhaust:D

Reminded of about 4/5 years ago when i had mine, cause i would have done exactly the same, probably passed myself if i flicked the naughty laughing gas switch.

Now i know i probably created a slip stream hole the size of a mountain for him to drive smoothly through, but i was still smiling cause he sort of kept up with me. Should have gone into 5th and really gone for it:rolleyes:

A totally standard 106GTI was my last car until I got my Scoob 99 turbo.

Remember a STI V following me one day in it and pulling up beside me at the lights. I shot of fairly quick and just thought he let me go, until he just totally blew me away after giving me a very fair head start. I was well impressed and glad I was able to see a bit of what it can do by the owner!

I'm in a mkI 106rallye while I wait for my 03 wagon. Black pug, black subie. Air conditioning will be nice!

I would have said this little 106 would have beaten a standard scoob.IMHO.

My 106gti was running at 170bhp + 150bhp NO2 jets. Lets just say it flew!!!

Could they take 150 jets?

Yes it did, but not for long:D:D

Started on 50s and worked up. By then i could not care less about the car, it eventually went bang mid flat out in 4th with nO2 on:D

3 engines in 18 months my liddle 106 had:D

But it was bloody fast and good fun when it ran;)

Had a group a clutch from peugeot special tuning, cost quite a bit but was worth it for putting the power down. The clutch never slipped at all.

I took a test drive in a 106GTI with my wife. So chuckable, so light, so dynamic, loved it. Could see myself living with one :)

I used to grin from ear to ear. Really nimble cars as standard, but even better when you can chase and beat m3'S

Injectors going in my scoob are 550's

As you know I used to have one (106Xsi 1.4)... may post up some pics... Spax.. StrutBrace, Exhaust, Airfilter, Headwork etc...

Spend fortunes modifing cars without turbos and you get 3 / 5 bhp more and think your doing really well..

Er, no!! 6 Car lengths is loads, you totally gubbed him!! My VTS (remember GTI twin) would only loose 2 (max) car lengths to a launched standard scooby over the 1/4 mile. Either:

a) He wasn't trying (unlikely, I loved playing with scoobs in the VTS)
b) He was a tarted up quicksilver
c) Your car if fairly well modified.

Why didn't you just supercharge your GTI? 200+bhp all the time :D

What sort of running costs are the 106 GTIs like? MPG etc?

My 106 GTI never really cost me anything in the year I had it compared to the Scoob. Insurance was still pricey but a lot less and you didn't require a tracker.

Servicing was cheap and I use to think petrol was bad in it, until I got the scoob! Since then my petrol bills have doubled and I am always thinking about the next shell garage.

All in all a great car that always looked understated on the road and would shock people who tried it on!

MPG used to get between 30 and 35 alot of mtorway mileage.

I think i said before, i was the first one to peugeot ecosse to look into the supercharge, got quite well down this route untill i test drove the scoob, so cancelled the supercharger and waited for the MY99 T to arrive (9 months). Got bored of waiting so thats why the NO2 went on. Cheap and chearfull.

The VTS/GTI is a lot cheaper to run than the scooby and is almost as quick as standard (dry only). On certain smooth roads - say a track - I'd argue my standard VTS would beat a stanard scooby round the bends. However, the standard pilots on the VTS were very good rubber whereas the standard scooby tyres IMO suck, so I think this is the reason more than anything.

As most of you know I've only recently made the change but one service for the scooby cost more than all the servicing for the 30k VTS put together!! :eek: In the saxo I'd get 330ish miles from 40 litres of optimax and in the scooby I get 250ish from 50 litres.....kinda says it all! If it wasn't for the insurance issues (i.e. taking out a second policy with no no claims) I'd have considered keeping the VTS and buying a cheap wrx import for going nutts in at the weekend.

It did make me really realise how better the Scooby is in Ireland recently and why I actually made the change.

The roads are really fantastic back there where I was and are free flowing with minimal cars and no speed traps.

I was regularly able to pass 3 o4 4 cars at a time with no hassle and the 4 wheel drive really powered me around the not so good roads that where wet and greasy. Always inspired more confidence pushing it where the 106 GTI would really be struggling. I would love to move back there for good just because of the roads!!
