Matt Churchill 25 September 2002 06:10 PM

Seems the car to have is a Jaguar R3 - 5.9secs I think:D

mista weava 25 September 2002 06:13 PM

slower of the mark than a scoob!

alcazar 25 September 2002 06:44 PM

My Scooby would do 0-100-0 in less than 4 seconds...............if I drove it off the Dartford Crossing!!!!:D:

Barnaby 25 September 2002 07:02 PM

This is the Scooby results:

http://upload.turbosport.co.uk/getpi...5845186123.jpg

It came below mid-table, beaten by F1 cars, 911 Turbos, etc :)

integra 25 September 2002 07:07 PM

Caterham R500 11.44s
Pagani 11.84s
911 Turbo 13.02s
Radical 13.20s
Murcielago 13.90s
Merc SL55 15.15s
TVR Tamora 15.20s

Focus RS 21.25s
Cupra R 21.95s
Civic R 22.60s

Type_RA 25 September 2002 09:44 PM

Everything got its a$$ kick by the F1 car but we knew that before hand. Nice to see they put a lightweight RS sprint EVO not a normal lardy one :D.

Barnaby 25 September 2002 10:14 PM

The article highlights the fact that the F1 car was TWICE as quick as the Pagani and that has 555bhp and is pretty light-weight.

How quick must that feel!

Reffro 26 September 2002 01:10 AM

I liked the 215mph terminal speed for the Jaguar R3 for the standing mile.....

MooseRacer 26 September 2002 08:15 AM

What happened to the 'all conquering' Focus that they were raving about the week before? Not much different from the Civic or the Leon

Barnaby 26 September 2002 08:29 AM

Seems the Focus has a torque limiter in the engine management that stops wheelspin in the first couple of gears. So it was virtually level with the cupra, etc until it hit third gear and then off it went.

Off course it did - and managed to eek out .7 of a second it went 'off' that well!

Hoppy 26 September 2002 09:14 AM

That F1 Jag is just incredible. It accellerates faster than our cars can brake! Just try a full-on stop from 100mph and then try to imagine accellerating at that speed, while changing gear and steering at the same time

Richard.

OK so they have automatic boxes now, but you get what I mean.

If it pulled away that significantly then the brakes must not be as good as the cupras, yes ?

Puff The Magic Wagon! 26 September 2002 09:33 AM

Autocar results are so crap......for example last weeks edition they had the Civic Type R beat the Rs and Cupra R to 100 in 16.2s and this week they have the Civic doing 17.68s.....and these figures were done on a track by them....

How reliable are Autocar figures...not much me thinks.....

Pavlo 26 September 2002 10:02 AM

The Gould car, was this a monocoque terrapin derivative or something?

the F1 car is just mind blowing, probably quite handy on the drag strip!

Anyone know the 1/4 mile time for the F1 car?

Paul

CraigH 26 September 2002 10:33 AM

Theres always something smelly about Autocars tests.....

So an R500 does 0-100 in 7.5ish secs does it

And I think someone needs to get the Radical on a dyno - 252hp and 475kg (and low 130mph max gearing doesn't equal 0-100 in 8.9 secs - if it does those 252 horse must be v small ones lol.

Hoppy 26 September 2002 11:02 AM

Craig, I'm fairly certain that Autocar's figures are legit - as measured on the day, in that car, at that place.

If there are any doubts, I would look at the cars, all of which will have been supplied by the manufacturers in the full knowledge of what was being done.

I ain't accusing anyone, but it is not unknown for 'press' cars (or bikes) to be a little more than standard. Anything from sticky tires and hotter brake pads, to full blue-printed engines, altered gear ratios and tweaked ECUs.

Best regards,

Richard.
