...change your Scooby for a more "practical" car, wot would you choose ?

Have thought long and hard about this, and the criteria is

- 4/5 doors
- decent mpg :D
- God forbid, possibly a diesel :p
- No larger than 2.0l and no turbo (unless above applies)

Come's to us all I'm afraid, so there's no point denying it!

The Scooby is a practical car... well I did swap my MR2 Roadster for it!!! :D

I did consider an A4 2.5 TD Quattro. Not that cheap though.

I changed mine for a Seat Leon TDI, 5 doors, loads to the gallon, still goes well and a nice spec. I got some cash back, and am working on getting a track oriented car next year.

I'd be tempted by one of the powerful oil burners 150 PDTDI Golf, 330d, etc. I'd maybe have a vts again if money was tight :)

I'm on that road right now.
V8 discovery with LPG
2.8 Galaxy with LPG
A8
you can guess 2 things from the list
1 now have a family
2 having an adverse reaction to the fortune I've spent at the petrol station in the last couple of years.

Anyone got any other 'sensible' suggestions.
It doesn't need to be that fast because it's bound to be a step down after 300bhp of Subaru but it does need to be quick enough to entertain.
Budget of about 12k-15k

Our "other" car is a Xantia 1.9TD.
If I was looking again at the mo, I wouldn't look a lot further than a new C5 2.2TD. Big, comfortable, handles quite well for a large car,and will pull the side off of a house!

Some of the new TDI's out there are extremely torquey, and are getting pretty powerful in the old BHP dept, compared to a few years ago.
The BMW/VW/Audi diesels are superb.

I just hung up the keys on an S13 200sx and bought the impreza because i need something practical. I can now fit a baby seat in the back and put a pram in the boot. Mpg isn't that bad if you're being sensible (though not a lot of us are).

Only non-practical thing about the impreza is the insurance cost.... and that's no reflection on the practicality of a car... just insurance companies ripping us off.

cheers,

Marty.

We're looking for something like that at the mo. I was really impressed by the LWB RAV4, might be a bit outside your price bracket. I'm dreaming about combining that with a Caterham.
