I am an ICE muppet! I am looking for a decent double din unit to replace one taken out of my Sti 5 by the previous owner, (now ugly hole below Kenwood single din currently filled by plastic tape holder).
There is a decent 10 disc Kenwood CD changer in the boot of the car (KDC-C711), but apparently Kenwood do not do double din units in the UK. Is it possible to get something else that would be compatible? Not interested in tapes, only CDs and or MP3. Grateful for any advice on what would be sensible preferably below the £300 mark . Cheers guys.

Single DIN adaptor's what you want really :D I believe halfords do 'em. Then you've got a choice of any single din unit...

Get a double DIN one, recently bought a Panasonic CQ-VX7700D from Super Autobacs in Japan, 450 euro, double DIN ,Cd and MD player with a very nice display

Single DIN obviously gives you more choice. I'm doing the same at the moment with my MY01 UK WRX. I've gone for a single DIN unit along with some new speakers, amp and sub.

The double DIN to single DIN adaptor can be got from Halfords or similar shops. You'll need Autoleads Car Harness Adaptor PC2-44-4
Headunit wise, I looked around for a bit and finally settled on an Alpine 7892R, which I managed to get from Hendon Car Stereo for £219 (quoted at £300 in the Alpine brochure).

If you goto the autoleads website, they also do the DIN adaptor in a kit form that comes with centre dash pocket, designed to fit below a single DIN headunit in the dashboard.

In a word: no.

Alpine will drive alpine changers, sony drives sony, kenwood drives kenwood.

It's a pain in the RS.

Another option is pictured on my post "Blaupunkt Install MY02". Blaupunkt do an in-dash multichanger which would fill the second DIN slot if you buy a blaupunkt head unit. Sounds great, works great, and even looks pretty good IMHO. I don't think anyone else does an in dash changer (except possibly Nakamichi, at £1k+).

Just a thought. Blaupunkt gear isn't alwasys the most popular, but IMHO is about the best sound quality/features for the money.
