Hi,
Currently having a discussion with colleagues regarding the smallest country/state. I remember reading somewhere about a man who took over an oil platform somewhere in the 80's and declared it an independant country, I think it was in Bizarre magazine ages ago. Does anyone else remember/have any links etc. for this place or am I just dreaming? TIA, Gareth |
Never heard of that one :D
But I believe the smallest country in the world is the Vatican City, the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. Located entirely within the city of Rome, Italy, the Vatican City (also known as the Holy See) is 0.2 square miles (0.44 km2) in area. |
I had a small bmw estate that i used to drive in the country.

DJ's correct. There have been a couple of instances of people setting up their own independent free state (Robbie the Pict in Scotland :) , some other dude in Oz - can't remember his name ) but none has ever gained international recognition which is probably required if you're ever going to be able to claim not to pay taxes, etc. ;)

That'll be Sealand, on the roughs towers in the Thames Estuary, they've got a website, but mind you don't look at it for too long or you'll end up mentallist like King Fred or whatever his name is!

Spooky, there's a special report on BBC regional (London) tonight about the very same subject.
