I know this is probably an age old topic of discussion, but please enlighten me to your experiences between the two, etc...

I'm in the market for a P1 after owning my MY00 for two years. Noticed that an EVO6 can be picked up for a similar price. I was wondering if a P1 would be too similar to my present car and an EVO may be a pleasent change, or will i be disappointed.

Any input is appreciated,

Cheers,

Steve

They are both incredible cars. with massive tuning capabilities, but the P1 tends to understeer slightly more than the EVO6, but I say go for the Evo for a pleasant change, you wont regret it

If u can cope with servicing every 4.5K miles, bone jarring ride (relative) and tiring long distance crusing (relative)....
go for the EVO. I am die hard Scooby but know the EVO6 is class.
P1 looks better though.

Why not save a few grand and get an import Sti?

davyboy 15 September 2002 08:59 PM

If you only do 9000 miles a year, then the servicing will be about the same.

One is manufactured by Mitsu....
Seriously though.. horses for courses imho..
I think that poeple are starting to realise that EVO's are not quite the weapons they are made out to be, just a quick note.. i am not looking to start 'ANOTHER' evo vs scoob thread just givin my opinion..

I know what you are thinking. Having owned my MY00 for just over 2 years I decided time for a change, the only way forward being P1 or Evo 6 so went to test drive both.

Both superb cars they had their pros and cons. Evo6 - manic short gearing, superb on a twisty B road (ride wasn't as harsh as I was expecting!), looks sooo agressive but was put off by high service costs and the fact that good, low milage UK cars weren't easy to find.

P1 does everything MY00 does but better (and faster). Love the looks and the engine noise (Evo doesn't seen to make any!) especially with the 8200 rpm limit and have had good experiences with Scooby dealers (so far!). However, it didnt feel quite as sharp as the Evo and wondered if I should try something different to a Scoob also.

So thought about both cars carefully and bought....

...a P1

Just my preference. Recommend you test drive both cars on the same day and see which one you like best!!

Good luck

Glenn

Thats because this BBS is full of people saying

bone jarring ride (relative) and tiring long distance crusing (relative)....
Try them both, then decide for yourself, or ask anyone who`s been in my Evo6 ;)

Rich.

If u can cope with servicing every 4.5K miles,
Just to point out this is just the AYC that requires oil change, something YOU yourself can do in 15mins. Sevicing apart from that is the usual. ;)

I think the P1 is overpriced for what it is. IMO i'd rarther go for a late STI. :)

TonyBurns 16 September 2002 01:31 AM

Crypt ;)
we all know that Subaru drivers and Evo drivers would change the oil at 4.5k anyway ;) so basically it is a service so...... :p
And who started this thing about my car being as quick as a standard Evo ;):D (he may just have a shock ;)) :D

evo stu 16 September 2002 08:12 AM

the oil in my evo 5 has to be changed ever 4500 miles at a small cost of £45 with filter and the ayc every 4500 miles at another small cost of £65 so that isnt expensive is it and i can tell you that i have beaten a P1 a few times and the only mods i have are zorst,de-cat and hks filter and running on optimax and octane booster,i personally would choose the evo as it has slightly better power, but i lurve the P1 looks.

I jumped from a MY00 to an EVO6 and never looked back(well sometimes - I do miss my scooby).
Agree with RichW about the ride.

Everyone looks at the EVO..and you can pull the birds too.

The P1 understeers slightly with the standard 17" wheels, but no understeer with the 18" (I lose my bottle before the car does)

I have an evo6 GSR.Personnally for me I love it and can't get enough of it.It turns heads like nothing else and goes well too.I have not been in a P1 so I can't compare performance ride etc.But I would imagine there isn't really a lot in it.But for me(no one take offence)the evo6 is the top of the tree out of cossies imprezas.
In my view heres why.
Out of the box they are pretty quick-under 5sec-0-60.
Goes round bends like nothing else.
They look very agressive very unique(not to everyones taste)
They are very easy to drive.
They are reliable if well looked after.
They turn heads like nothing else.
They are fairly rare and in my view are a legend.

These are only my views and am open to comment. But the impreza P1 is an awesome car as well.At the end of the day it's down to personnal taste.
One thing the evo6 is better at than the P1 is price.A good P1 is about 2-3 grand more than the evo6.
At the end of the day test drive the two cars and see what gives you the biggest grin. And most of all enjoy it whatever you choose.

chrisp 16 September 2002 12:52 PM

I havent owned either so that should make me an expert :D. Drive them both, personally the P1 has better road manners and EVO better track manners. Depends on what you want form the car. I suspect that the P1 is easier to live with day to day but to be honest neither of them is meant for luxury, refined motorway crusing, is it ;).

Seriously if it was me I would look for an STI6 Type R or RA. Cheaper than either and plenty of money left over for mods and sods.

Much easier to find a mint low mileage scoob than an evo.

Servicing isnt an issue for me as its serviced every 6 months which equates to about every 2,500 miles anyhow.

Cheers

Chris

I bought a P1 over an EVO 6 mak (and I drove both a lot)

Fuel tank on evo is small
Insurance was a| LOT more on the evo
I got a trackstar unit free in my P1
Driving position is high (I am tall) in the evo.
servicing (yes I know I could do it myself but thats why I go to a garage - I don't want to get my hands dirty!)

The evo feels a bit more manic than a P1, but in reality I bet they are the same speed in standard form.
Nice water spray button on the evo.
Evo has 4 doors.
I like my 2 doors.
Mistsubishi don't seem to mind if you mod your evo (as they do a range of excellent mods themselves) and they will warranty you still.
Subaru on the other hand will invalidate your warranty if you do ANYTHING.

If you want to mod and keep a warranty, go for evo.

If you want a car that does everything get a P1. (IMO)

They're both top cars though, and I could've gone either way.

cheers

Paul
