Anybody know how to kill those endearing pop up ads that add so much to the internet experience? Not the banner type things those I can live with.

Has ANYBODY ever responded to a pop up add in a positive manner.

I'd crawl a mile over broken glass before giving my business to any firm that used them.

Or is it just me?

You can get programs to kill them, but! i believe they also kill the buttons on scoobynet and similair, can't remember exactly why :rolleyes:

How do you identify and get rid of pop-ups that seem to be resident in your PC? Is there a programme I can kill using CTRL-ALT-DEL when I first turn on PC? David (non-PC expert).

I downloaded a popup killer and it doesn't work.Still I get to look at the porn and my girlfriend receives all the Spam:D.
Sometimes I get a casino popup and the "X"to remove that window is off the screen and when I try to move the window it won't.The only way I can get rid is to reset the computer as even signing off and then on again sees it return:(.BTW ctrl+alt+tab/delete doesn't get rid of it-any ideas????????

Always check out Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DELETE or right click on taskbar) as you can normally close applications that are playing up. Never had to resort to resetting pc yet. (but I don't tend to experiment with 'adult entertainment websites'......much ;) :D)

I'd like a function whereby everytime you closed an annoying popup, it sent an e-mail/message/alert etc. to the website to say that I don't like these invasion of privacy tosspot stoopid annoying popups! I'm calm, I'm calm.

You need AdAware - it's on download.com. It kills the "spyware" adverts that track what you're looking at and display relevant :rolleyes: popups!

Andy - thanks pal, may try that. Will it stuff up my looking at Scoobynet etc?

Someone mentioned closing programmes that may be responsible using CTRL/ALT/DELETE. The problem I have being a non-PC buff is that I don't recognise which programmes are which. Yep I know Systray and Explorer is important but that's about the limit of my knowledge. Using Windows 95 - sad I know :rolleyes:

Try AD-AWARE, gets rid of all that sh1t and spyware too. Free as well and really stops your computer getting buggered.

Ad-Aware simply removes dodgy programs and cookies from your pc. It will not affect ScoobyNet in any way. It also does not stay running. You just run it periodically to keep things sorted.

Ad-aware works very well. Visit their homepage here. When you have downloaded the latest version, also download the 'RefUpdate 2.0' add on. Ad-aware signature files are similar to AV signature files in that they are updated regularily, Instead of having to download a new version of Ad-aware every few months - use the RefUpdate program to check for updates. The program will then automatically install the latest signature files.

If you are interested in Spyware / popups etc and want more info, have a look at Spywareinfo. Very useful website.

Thanks again. Sorry to ask more questions. If it takes out the cookies won't that mean it takes out all the access passwords, that are stored as cookies, to Scoobynet and a host of other password linked sites that I use such as internet banking? Or can I keep the cookies I want and, if so, how do I identify them?

In the case of Ad-aware it only removes known spyware cookies such as 'double click' or similar. It won't remove all cookies. In addition, I believe you can upgrade to the premium version (still very low cost) that allows you to customise where it searches and leave designated files untouched.

Meaya is the best but you only get 30 goes, so do what i did, i downloaded it to my hard drive where i know it is.
Then when you have used your 30 pop ups just delete it off and go to your folder where it is and put it on again,
Better still buy the meaya software.
it only stops the anoying pop ups.
