JW Racing is selling these at £42 inc VAT. From the write-up it sounds fantastic..much improved performance, less turbo lag..all for £42.

What are the catches then?
Could I fit it to my MY02 WRX (standard other than back box)easily and gain all the performance improvements they talk about?

Would I need a boost gauge to keep an eye on things if I didn't change the base set-up?

Yes it makes a big difference and yes you need a boost gauge so you can set it up correctly :)

There have been loads of posts about this. I have spoke to a few peeps who have fitted it to MY01+'s with no problems (provided you dont go over 17psi). I am planning on fitting one later this month.

I have had one fitted to a MY01 since december- wouldn't be without it.

If you're not too far away I can demsonstrate the with / without effects.

When I was looking at dawes pricing on the jwracing site recently, there were pages giving the price as 35quid all in still up, but the actual pricelist gave 42 quid or more. I expect jamie just needs to update the other pages.

IIRC, The unit is 35 dollars (~£22.70) in the states, but then you have to add postage and possibly vat/duty.

Moray - when was the last time you looked at the site? It was updated a few weeks back with VAT inclusive prices.

The UK prices were set by myself and Dawes USA in order to incorporate duties, VAT and the costs of bringing them into the country, still at £42 what else compares?

The website is still in two minds about the price even now, as I type this, despite being updated a few weeks back! :rolleyes: :)

Just went onto your website, chose "dawes devices"(dawes logo) from main page, chose "The original super duty boost controller" from the next page and lo and behold:

"Price: £35.50 (includes 7 in. of premium silver silicone hose, tie-wraps, and 7 page online instruction set )"

Which is considerably cheaper than :

"£42

Deluxe kit shown please add £17.50

inc. VAT"

which appears on the main price page.

I just looked on the JW site and it says this can be fitted in 15 minutes and the instructions say the setting takes about half an hour. There is some mention of using an AFR meter, but it doesn't specifically say you have to have one.

If I was to buy one of these and a boost gauge would this be all I need or do I need the AFR as well ? And what about the fuel cut defender, do I need one of them too ?

Is it possible to raise the boost to a certain level without needing any changes to fuelling and if so does anyone know what level that is likely to be for a 94 WRX ?

Sorry for all the questions but this seems quite tempting as a cheap mod. I just want to make sure it stays that way and doesn't end up costing a load more.

always wise to add an AFR just to keep your eye on things.
Fuel cut is just over 1 bar on the 94 car so i would set the dawes to peak approx .9 bar- this will make quite a difference to the way it drives and, more importantly, how it responds.

fuelling should be fine to this level- the fuel cut is there for a reason so wouldn't look at removing / increasing it until you have the correct monitoring facilities in place.

Thanks, I think I might go for a dawes and a boost gauge and see what happens. What is 0.9 bar in psi ?

I've been thinking of changing the car but I'm in no real rush so a cheap boost will keep me going in the meantime, maybe change the car after Xmas.

Edit - I'm guessing it is safe to increase boost without increasing fuelling as long as I keep within the fuel cut limit ??
