How the hell can i trasfere all my emails to my PC or something?

Alot are shipment conformations, passwords, Payment stuff for parts.

Si

MarkO 11 September 2002 04:26 PM

FFS, Si, can't you learn how to spell?!?!

It might help if you told us what the email system is.... (i.e., PC, Unix, VMS, Mac, etc) and possibly even what the client is?

chiark 11 September 2002 04:27 PM

Ah bugger.

What system are you using? Outlook? If so /documents and settings/<username>/local settings/application data/microsoft/outlook and take the PST file. Also, for no adequately explainable reason, the rules wizard stuff is in /documents and settings/<username>/application data/microsoft/outlook

There's also a program called outback which may be easier... Google for it.

Of course, if you're not using MS Outlook, this doesn't apply :D

super_si 11 September 2002 04:32 PM

how can i use out ook if i dont know the pop or SMTP servers?

we use

http://sws.ncl.ac.uk

Sorry for rushing, just ive got like 2days to sort it unless i lose it all!

Si

super_si 11 September 2002 04:33 PM

pop.swsimap.ncl.ac.uk?

MarkO 11 September 2002 04:35 PM

Why don't you just ask the IT department? They're bound to know.

Alternatively, can't you just select all the mails in one go and forward them onto, say, a hotmail account?

Dream Weaver 11 September 2002 04:37 PM

Can you not just do a maths exam? :p

MarkO 11 September 2002 04:38 PM

If he can't work out how to forward a few emails from a Uni account onto his personal account, I suspect that continuing the Computer Science course will be a bit pointless anyway...

Mr Footlong 11 September 2002 04:41 PM

Why don't you do what I recommended to you ages ago? create a NTL mailbox for yourself since you use them for broadband and then log into your uni mail system and forward it on in chunks that ntl can accept?

It isn't difficult to setup, you are more than capable of figuring it out and then you will have a proper email system like most of us.

Sigh....

Cheers,

Nick.

MarkO 11 September 2002 04:41 PM

you are more than capable of figuring it out
You sure about that? ;)

dsmith 11 September 2002 04:43 PM

"Very Important"

not to me its not

super_si 11 September 2002 04:46 PM

Seriously please **** off unless your not going to help.

forward a few..

lets see got over 1000 emails never mind your idea flawed.

Help out of my Department?

you taking the piss there usless.

Appart from there field ie java, database VB they are hopeless

Ok nick furry muff like i said this morning NTL doesnt like the password they gave me so im sorting it.

chiark 11 September 2002 04:47 PM

Looks like you're using IMAP. Outlook can speak IMAP (I think) :)

Easiest thing: forward the stuff you want if that's your only way of picking up mail.

super_si 11 September 2002 04:49 PM

cant forward just looked,

Options only there when your in the actuall email no way im doing that 1000 times

will it be the pop address above do you think?

Si

MarkO 11 September 2002 04:50 PM

Seriously, please, why don't you f*ck off unless you're going to answer questions asked of you. How is anyone supposed to help if you won't even bother telling us a few extraneous facts (as I requested)?

And do you really need all 1,000 mails? I find that hard to believe.

You're talking sh*t, as usual, and wasting everyone else's time. If you were really that bothered, you'd pop over to the IT dept, and speak to the server admin staff to find out what's the best solution. Assuming, that is, that the mail account is on a server - but I since you haven't given that information (which is, incidentally, crucial to us helping you solve the problem) I can't be certain.

MarkO 11 September 2002 04:57 PM

will it be the pop address above do you think?
Well, why don't you try pinging it to find out?

super_si 11 September 2002 04:57 PM

its 447.

If i say there not going to help they wont help.

swsimap didnt work! bugger

super_si 11 September 2002 04:58 PM

like ive being taught that on my degree.... not being funny i dont have a clue mate!

ChrisB 11 September 2002 05:01 PM

Post your password and username up and let us have a look at the options...

super_si 11 September 2002 05:01 PM

no

GaryK 11 September 2002 05:04 PM

si,

Have you tried going thru each one and do (ctrl-c) copy and (ctrl-v) paste, just a thought ............... :rolleyes :)

dsmith 11 September 2002 05:05 PM

"ike ive being taught that on my degree"

My degree didnt cover "walking", "breathing" or "eating" but somehow I muddled through without scoobynet.

Shall I dig out a couple of recent threads in which you answered people's requests for help with some gibberish that seemd to indicate you wanted to flog them your old (probably fecked) kit ?

Seeing as you promised you'd feck off recently but didnt I dont see why I should.

super_si 11 September 2002 05:07 PM

might have to do that thanks gary.

Nothing wrong with anything ive sold cheers mate.

Mr Footlong 11 September 2002 05:07 PM

Si, you are a nad. So much so that I am sick of it and you are blocked from my messenger now 'breathes a sigh of relief' Do you feel big asking me questions, getting the hump and then shouting at me that I am wrong? I told you ages ago to sort NTL and you just sat there with your finger up your @ss instead of picking up a phone, speaking to somebody and using your initiative to set the rest up.

Your attitude sometimes, just like your spelling sucks mate

If most of your 1000-odd emails are just text, then you should be able to forward a good couple of hundred at a time you muppet.
Not exactly a lot of work, but maybe it is, as you can't get someone else to do it for you!

You suck.

Nick

ChrisB 11 September 2002 05:08 PM

Si, there's a BIG BUTTON on that first screen called FORWARD.

Therefore forward the important e-mails to yourself....

super_si 11 September 2002 05:09 PM

you can only Forward one at a time seriously, unless id have done it.

dsmith 11 September 2002 05:10 PM

to be fair - its not *that* big.

super_si 11 September 2002 05:10 PM

AS for the BIG button did you notice im in an Email, the means doing the 400+ times.

emailed the webmaster doesnt matter.

Miles 11 September 2002 05:13 PM

Hey, select all and then hit delete - problem solved.

Do I win a degree? :D

Seriously, were they giving entrance to your course free with Kitkats?

Grottbags 11 September 2002 05:15 PM

Okay, so you can't forward them onto another account or ask the IT dept. for help.

What about printing them out? I'd want to do that anyway if they're as important as you say.

Then you can set up your own personal email account and use that instead.

You are the only student I've ever come across who relies solely on the campus email address for anything.
