Sideways 09 September 2002 10:39 AM

I have a PPP on order for my sti7 type uk.
Standard car 265 bhp and 300 ish (so say) with the PPP.
Been thinking though, surely a full decat exhaust will give me the same sort of power increase at a fraction of the cost.
PPP is £2000 which is an ECU and a full exhaust. ( probably a sports cat front pipe ?? )
Cost of full stainless Scoobysport or suchlike £700 ish.

My old wagon was 240 with a decat (208 standard) so surely the sti would gain just as much giving me around the 300bhp mark.

Anyone done this to theirs ??

Any comments ??

Regards Jay

Decatting an STi-7 has led to some serious boost spikes(see drivetrain forum) so its not recommended unless you fit some kind of restrictor.

Also fitting a downpipe will invalidate your warranty, so unless that's not important to you then don't do it.

After doing just over 6000 miles i'm questioning the point of the PPP for the STI-7. In real world driving it does'nt need it.

Besides, our warranty could expire before its out ;)

chrisp 09 September 2002 10:50 AM

How do you know it had 240bhp which engine dyno do you use ?

Sideways 09 September 2002 10:50 AM

That would be about right warranty expiring before its out lol.
My dealer reckons the end of the month :D
Don't know what to do. ;)
Might just go for a cat back exhaust and an induction kit.

Regards Jay.

im in the same boat, picking up my sti later on today, had a full ss system on my p1, heard about the boost spikes so a bit iffy about going down the same route on the sti, i have to say though, i have driven two demos, one with 2k on it and one with 7k, far better with more miles, when i test drove the first one no way was i part xing my p1 for it, different story this time around, still slower in first and second but a better car, i think, and 4 door, better for my three sprogs

Re safety for the sprogs - see www.hwysafety.org to see how well the latest shape comes out - impressive

Pete Croney 09 September 2002 12:50 PM

Guys

Have no fear on the boost spikes, this was completely sorted a long time ago.

I suspect that the PPP will also include a spike fix.

T5NYW 09 September 2002 01:23 PM

After 4k miles and a new B/Box:D don't think I will be going down the PPP @ £2000 route :(

Just keep the revs between 5K & 6.5K rpm and hold on tight:D:D LOL

Tony

Ps, for those with STi7 Euro then Mr I Litchfied for an Xhosrt System could be a good investment:D (nope not related or on payroll)

If i should Buy PPP for STI 7,will the Subaru Warranty be still valid?? with the PPP is there any problem apart from increasing consumption?? Thanx FEDE

I am having the same difficulty with the decision. I ordered my PPP back in April on the basis we would get delivery in early august. Based on this I was happy HOWEVER they now say late september early October which to me means November :(.

ECUTEK reckon that their software will be ready in mid November and with a retune under them costing circa £600 a wee decat from Scoobysport the whole job could be done for £1300 with the huge advantage that it could be tuned to an individuals particular needs. I recently bought DeltaDash from ECUTEK and it is a very nice bit of work which is worth every penny.

I think Prodrive should rethink their pricing for the PPP to make it more attractive to us but what are the chances of that happening....... :(

Jacey Boy 09 September 2002 02:52 PM

I have been having the exact thoughts to, £2000 plus an extra £250 insurance is just to much, I think as long as you have got the noise on the car the 300bhp doesnt matter, anyway when the warranty expires you can de-cat it.

WillieF 09 September 2002 02:56 PM

300bhp is important especially if they fix the torque curve so that something happens before 4k rpm...

I am getting quite used to the stealth mode of the Sti7 so noise is less important.

Sideways 09 September 2002 02:59 PM

Thanx guys for the input.
Pete am I right in saying that Scooby sport full system will give this sort of power, and all problems are sorted with boost spikes etc ?

My MY97 wagon with 105k on the clock was dyno'd at powerstation at 240.5 bhp Scoobysport full system and an ITG panel filter.

Mmmm don't know what to do for the best.

If any of you guys get it done then I trust you will report your thoughts on here.

Mine feels tight still at 3K miles soooo it will get faster then ???? :D :D

Cheers Jay

steviep1 09 September 2002 03:43 PM

Thought i'd join in, my STI7 still feels very tight at just under 2000 miles. Will I really notice a difference in performance over another say 5000 miles or so?

Also just about to put on a K and N induction kit from Graham Goode motor sport Leicester. They reckon ill see an extra 10- 15bhp which seems a lot to me. Anybody had one fitted to theirs and if so any comment????

Also Boll**ks to prodrive and their rip off performace kit, ill wait until Evo get theirs and read their comments with interest.

WillieF 09 September 2002 03:46 PM

My STi7 has almost 7k on the clock and I would say that there is quite a difference between now and when it had 2k on the clock

Iain Young 09 September 2002 03:50 PM

I've just had the 10,000 mile service done, and I can definitely say it feels much faster / looser etc than it did at 2000 miles as well

sideways - get it mapped by Johnny Banks and get a decent exhaust...

p.s. might have some interesting news about zoorst's 4 u - email me or ask at a team thorns night...

I bought a Litchield modified Euro Sti7 with the full decat & Magnex exhaust system, plus eibach suspension, big rear spoiler etc. It is excellent, I luvit. Unichip and Dawes Device take care of the boost (apparently- I am no expert).

The noise is to die for. Pulls like a locomotive, but not as quiet.

babber 09 September 2002 04:42 PM

Even if there was a boost spike this could be easily controlled with a restrictor or a Dawes ;)

I would go for a Scoobysport full exhaust and a remap ;) At least you get that before you warranty runs out, lol ;)

Oh and I agree with the comments about Delta Dash, it's fantastic ;)

Cheers Phill C

I've now done 6,000 miles in my STi7 and confirm what others are saying about how much looser it feels. I had contemplated having the PPP fitted but found it hard to justify spending the £2k. Instead I've fitted a blitz nur spec R and thats put the smile back on my face :D:D. Ok the noise isn't subtle but thats the point isn't it!! :D:).

WillieF 09 September 2002 04:55 PM

Well if Mike Wood is reading this he whould be getting a message. We are all cancelling our PPP orders!! /brave mode on/ bugger the warranty /brave mode off/

steviep1 09 September 2002 04:57 PM

s'cuse my ignorance but whats a blitz nur spec r?

JGRIFF 09 September 2002 05:07 PM

I have the answer, and a very contented smile!!!
For those of you at TRAX yesterday, my car was the one the figures were taken from on the flyer.

Thanks
Gareth

ROBO 10 September 2002 08:05 AM

Pete, before you sell him one make sure mine`s in the post for delivery to Stan Palmers as apparantly they`ve had one on order since June, i`m back in country tomorrow expecting an STi with Scoobysport system, we`ll see.

T5NYW 10 September 2002 06:20 PM

Listers just recieved a memo from IM/Prodrive that PPP will be released sometime in October :D the date will be confirmed in the next two weeks. Document looked real to me could be a fake though:eek:

Tony

Ps wasn't shown in confidence probably wanted me to put it on the jungle telegraph:)

babber 10 September 2002 09:16 PM

Hmm sometime in October now, Jay was told late September

Cheers Phill C
