The VF35's have recently become available to us Yanks. Nobody seems to have experience with them though, so I was wondering if you guys had any knowledge you could share. If anybody has a compressor map... I don't know what I'd do to thank you :D

No I haven't yet but the Greek Subaru departement uses this turbo for an uprated "Greek" STI7 version with 330ps so it looks that is suitable for the new age Impreza.

The MY02 STI wears this turbo as standard original equipment. So some MY02 STI owners should be able to comment here. ;)

It would be good to get some "accurate" info, on the VF35.

One source has led me to believe that the VF35 is nigh on identical to the VF30, and another has said that it has an even smaller exhaust housing (P15), than the P18, which is slightly confusing, given what Theo is saying.

Theo, are you sure they're not using the VF34 for the upgrade. This is the same turbo they are using on the Type C STi.

Jamie, can you tell me about your experiences with the VF35, boost response, onset, boost level etc etc?

R19, the VF35 is smaller than the VF34. It is more suited to the low to midrange portion of the power band. This, to my understanding, is largely due to the smaller exhaust housing (P15 vs. the VF34's P18). It seems like it's a step up from the Mitsubishi TD04L which we get in the States (not sure about you guys) in our stock WRX's, but not quite the step up that the VF34 is (which seems best suited to the upper low to lower high range of the powerband).

The VF35 is on the STI UKs and 7's as standard, but I havent bothered to optimize its' use and capacity as all along I have been planning on upgrading to a turbo with much the same charactoristics but with a much higher flow capacity.

The VF35 started spooling up at around 2900-3100RPM and hit a full one bar of boost at around 3800-4000RPM. Some boost spiking issues have led to it spiking at 1.56 Bar and holding 1.1-1.2 with the mods I had on the car before the bigger mods happened on Sunday.

The car goes to get mapped on Thursday so I will then be able to compare the VF35 against the SR40, so far I haven't driven it over 3500RPM, but initial impressions are that the SR40 spools up earlier, not sure how it manages this as it is 40-50 larger than the VF35 but time will tell!

Jamie, Have you still got the original ecu fitted?
