yes EVO6, i have been reading this thread, but theres one similar on the gtr board and couldnt be ar5ed repeating myself:D

ok, heres my honest thoughts on this...

if you want to have the 'daddy', get the skyline.
if you want to go on all day about bhp figures, get the skyline.
if you want to be part of an 'elite' get the skyline
if you want to go on track, get the skyline
if you want to spend a fortune on tuning, get the skyline

if you want to be able to park the damn thing, get the evo
if you want loads of SAFE fun in whatever the weather, get the evo
if you want reasonable practicality, get the evo
if torque is more important to you, get the evo
if you want a greater amount of specialists to choose from, get the evo

BUT MOST OF ALL,GET THE CAR THAT YOU LIKE!!

there is an old saying, you should never meet your heroes, you will only be disappointed(or summat like that)
i love skylines, i really do, but in the end, i chose the car that suited ME. after a while, it doesnt matter how much bhp etc you have, you get used to it.
hairing down a motorway is fun...for a while. blasting round a wet b road is always thrilling, to me anyway.
its horses for courses. skyline tuning is NOT cheap, despite what people may say. i have found the evo cheaper to tune, and a lot more noticeable difference too.
i am truly an evo convert, and havent wanted to sell this car once:eek:
i'm lucky enough to be able to have whatever car i want within reason, and had a lovely r33, but in the end, i'll take this 387bhp baby EVERY day of the week:)

edited to say after giving it more thought, people really shouldnt be comparing these two cars as such.
one is a great tourer, the others great for shorter blasts. BOTH are superior to any scooby, but you must choose the one that suits your driving and what you see as fun:)

Skyline = huge straight line thrills & long bendy roads.

Evo = mind boggingly grip & the best of the lot for B roads.

Both superior to Scooby performance i.e. Chassis not set up to under steer on the limit.

Choose from the heart - you won't regret either, and YES both choices are a definite upgrade not a side step :)

What's the best buy and why? Any advice appreciated - just looking ahead a year or two...

Brun 05 September 2002 06:35 PM

Never been in either, but IMO the Skyline is the daddy.

Blitz_Boy 06 September 2002 01:12 AM

R33 anyday.

CROYDON 06 September 2002 07:52 AM

GTR in my view.

Has been discussed here;

Hope it helps.

If you're keeping them standard then take the Evo, if you're thinking of modding them, take the Skyline.

Get the skyline. You'll love it.

EVOVI 06 September 2002 09:25 AM

I would say get the R33 gtr...
I went from Evo VI to the R33 Gtr and have found it better in most things than the Evo.It really depends on what you want personally. The Evo is quick,4 doors and large boot, the Skyline is quicker but 2 doors and not much of a boot. You cannot really park the skyline in car parks either cause it is just to big.
If you do alot of motorway driving don`t get the evo as it is not geared for high speed.
If you want to tune it then Skyline again,400bhp is easy to get 500bhp not that difficult and that will be reliable. The evo can be tuned but not so easily or to high bhps.
Do you like sliding cars??THe Evo just sticks to the road like glue and is easy to drive, the skyline is full on arse end action.
Is Spudgun not out there???He went the other way from R33 to EvoVI and I am sure he will tell you the pros and cons he found......

mozzaITA 06 September 2002 12:46 PM

What do u mean that evo's arnt geared for high speed??... they do reach 150 + mph, but do u mean that on the motorway u will be doing 70 for example and hitting high rpm, guzzling loads of fuel in the process???

isnt the evo rs really low geared for accelleration?

NLW33 06 September 2002 12:55 PM

dude. you already have a wheezy four pot...why you want another one??
Go for the RB26 DETT and you will never look back. 500 ponies is easy to achieve and not too costly..providing you have a good car that has been run on UK fuel all its life and no jap chip...sutton can vouch for that one!!
The skyline is a true legend in all accounts and so much more of a rarer beast. I see scoobs and evos everywhere...even in our car park...but only one GTR. It has better manners as well on open roads.
It is max respect wherever you go; even the rari, porker, maserati guys acknowledge the GTR.

Besides the SKYLINE GTR with the straight six engine has now stopped production. The last of the R34 derivatives rolled off last august 2002. even more reason to have one..they are just going to get rarer and rarer.

Just look at ten of the best. Noone was close in terms of an overall category..ok you had the odd quick evo or cossie...but HOW MANY SKYLINES were at the top of the ladder!!

Make sure you get a good one.

NLW33 - Totally mad on the GTR.

I don't normally like black cars, but that is one nice looking car.

I'd have to agree with most of the posts. To me the Scooby and the Evo are in a similiar class but the Skyline is in another league. After seeing a few in action I would definately go Skyline. When I eventually get bored of my Scooby and want to change it I would see the Evo as a sideways step rather than an upgrade. The Skyline is definately on my list as the next car I would upgrade to from the Scoob.

Paul78 06 September 2002 01:54 PM

Shunty, which one - The Scoob, the Evo or the Skyline ??? ;)

polarbearit 06 September 2002 06:26 PM

Skyline Skyline Skyline Skyline Skyline Skyline Skyline Skyline

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Spudgun VI 06 September 2002 08:27 PM

also, my car is on the mlr stand at trax on sunday.

for those of you who may be thinking about getting an evo, you are more than welcome to have a looksy.
i doubt you will see a nicer allround roadgoing evo6 than mine. even my sticker on the ar5e is a custom one off to match the interior retrim:D
my badges are one off, the interiors a one off. everything has been chosen to complement everything else, from the guages to the rev/g meter thingy,to the ICE. even had loads of shiney stuff done under the bonnet. its my best work of art to date, and the one i'm truly proud of:)

so come and say hello.....and prepare to want one;):D

carl 06 September 2002 08:36 PM

NSX :D

Spudgun VI 06 September 2002 08:40 PM

ha ha! carl! tell that to the nsx owner who tried it on with me and mosi going up the m1 not so long back. lets just say it wasnt me or mosi's car that had white smoke belching out the back end;):D

carl 06 September 2002 08:53 PM

:D

polarbearit 06 September 2002 11:57 PM

Agree with spud on the differences... Evo is fantastic for short journeys and B road blasts, As for the skyline, I've had less trouble over parking etc/vandalism than I did with the scooby (touch wood)!

shunty 07 September 2002 12:29 AM

Paul - walked right into that one didn't I:D:D
only the skyline of course in the CORNER;) bu55er took an edit for the corner as well:rolleyes:
and a further 1 as I got yer name wrong:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Thanks for all the opinions guys. What are the running cost of these cars like compare to my MY98 WRX?

polarbearit 07 September 2002 10:16 AM

Personally I've found a 400bhp skyline very similar in terms of pretty much all costs as my previous Jap Import Scooby (insurance slightly dearer, servicing slightly cheaper but slightly more often - still less often than an evo ;))

Upgrades cost a small fortune though - eg triple plate clutch = £1600 + fitting
