Does anyone else out there get really hacked off with this message

I cant see how/why it is needed anyway!

Ok I dont care - it puts you off bothering with this **** site!

IWatkins 25 July 2001 08:01 PM

Steve,

Are you talking about flood control ? If so it is there for a very good reason.

And if you post properly, you should never come across it.

However, if you are having problems posting and actually have a problem, let us know here. Having a rant is NOT constructive.

Cheers

Ian

Your typing to fast to activate the flood gates matey..

You can normally post every 60 seconds I believe, I've had it many a time myself.

Now I revert to sending a reply to a post then go get a beer from the fridge and the send another.

steve McCulloch 25 July 2001 09:53 PM

Mr Watkins

I think you know exactly what I'm talking about. Its the 60 second floodgate sh*t. Why should I be penalised for typing so fast and wanting to move on quickly.

Given the amount of people who probably post simultaneously why is there such a good reason for it!

Its affected me for the past two years - its like a disease - I cant be arsed waiting! - I just keep having to hit the back button and go for it again and again - I think my record is about 9 tries! - surely this must be just as bad as me trying to post so quickly in the first place!

Can some IT guru explain it to me - in laymans terms - not the usual crap I get from some of my 'IT colleagues' at work

Back down to planet earth

I dont want to wait and get a beer - the girlfriend moans enough as it is that I'm in this sh*t for too long and when will I get a 'life back'

I keep saying that once project 'make my crap car faster'is fully sorted I will get away form this geekiness and regain my life back - become a normal person as my friends say!

see ya then.....

druddle 25 July 2001 10:23 PM

steve - if you are going to moan then at least get the message you see right...

flood control not flood gate.

thanks for starting this really helpful and benificial thread. i am sure the whole scoobynet community is eternally grateful.

ex-webby 25 July 2001 10:41 PM

Thank you very much indeed steve for that lovely tribute to myself and all the people who work to make this **** site available for you FREE OF CHARGE

The reasons for the flood control are

a) To reduce the likelihood of a denial of service attack (if that term is too geeky for you, I do not have time to explain it to you (I'm too busy answering questions about how the board is run at 20 to midnight!))

b) To stop people abusing the board by posting a 1000 messages in the general forum just to be a nuisance.

All the hard work that goes into running this site has just been made slightly less rewarding.

Sixty seconds between posts is there for a very good reason... Could you imagine how quickly the average muppet could accumulate obscene numbers of posts without it being there! http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/biggrin.gif

You really need to chill a little! Why get so wound up about it?

Perhaps you should have scoobynet running in two windows, so at least you could browse one whilst waiting for your sixty seconds on the other?

You are not being penalised for being a speed typist either, and I find it hard to believe you feel this way?

Lighten Up for gawds sake, and Smile. http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/smile.gif

Steve,

I think all the above postings cover it nicely. What would you rather have, not being able to bang out a reply every 10 seconds, or not having Scoobynet at all ?

Sorry, forgot, you only use this resource for your own ends to get your 'crap car' finished (your words) and sod everyone else.

If that is your attitude, I don't think many people will be sad to see you go and become 'a normal person' again. Us geeks will stay here, with our crap cars, without girlfriends and without lives.

Good luck

Cheers

Ian

Steve's eloquently posed question has been answered, so I'm closing this thread before it gets any more personal.
