I raced a Civic Type R at the weekend from 0-140 from a roundabout(kph:)) up the M62 and I caught him very slowly. I thought I'd have left him. P!ssed off.
Got to another round-about and I was quicker round it, but the gap stayed the same coming off and blasting up the hill.

If that was in Dorset today or yesterday then your lucky..I must of got stuck behind every Caravan/Steam Engine and Tractor this weekend :eek:

Getting back to it, yeah they are quite quick I had one of those a ITR and Civic VTi when I worked for Honda and really rated them for N/A cars. Nice sounding engines, great on handling and braking....but just needed that little bit more power to keep you awake on the straights.

I know what you mean about the traffic mate, I live about 12 miles from the steam fair on a main rd, it took me 30 mins to do 1/4 mile on thurs, god knows what the traffic was like yesterday, I was in Bristol, so was the type R.

What type of Scoob you got?

I test drove an Accord Type R a few months back and have never been so underwhelmed. And that was when my Scoob was relatively unmolested. If i saw one today, i'd like to think it was a non-event...

TelBoy, did you drive it correctly? You need to go just above the red, floor flat to the floor, before changing, cause for some stupid reason the ATR gear change drops you slightly out of VTEC between changes, very very stupid, bloody British built Jap type cars arent a good idea!!

If you really rag it, its poss to stay in "the zone" but I would recon a VTEC controller would be a must for that one.

IntegraR - well, sort of, as properly as i was able with a nervous main agent younster sitting next to me!

On song, i agree it's rapid, but not Impreza rapid IMO. Perhaps it was the bargy feel of the suspension which made it feel a lot less controllable - it's a big car, and i'd say they could have done a lot more to beef up the cornering ability.

But it was the way you really have to work it to get anywhere that irritated me - it's like i'd have needed a packet of Anadin in the glovebox for any half decent trip, it's all so frenetic. Out of Vtec it really did seem a chore...

I have heard many great things about the VTEC engines but I always hear people complain that it's crap when it's not in the VTEC zone and that the VTEC bit comes on song too late which sort of begs the the question, why don't they lower the point of the VTEC (I know you can do this with VTEC controllers but why don't they do this at the factory) or alternatively have the VTEC profle engaged full time?

I understand some people may want to still poottle around but if you want to do that why buy a Type R?

I had a Civic VTI, the power band was 4.5-8.5k and nearly nout below 4.5K rpm. The engines do not start to give best power until you have around 12K miles on the clock. a run in Accord should give a UK scoob a damn good run for its money on the straight once moving.

Had the Civic off the clock @ 8.5K revs in top 18.5mph per 1000rpm so around 155mph from a 1.8L (on a slight slope) - Was going past an intergrale at the time, my colleague said the Intergrale drivers face was a picture!

What's your car bumcrack..ie what mods if any?

With just those mods probably not actually. I'd expect you'd slowly beat him (like you said). A downpipe and ITG is a strange starting route to take for modifying IMO. Have you still got a standard back box????. You'd have beaten him a little easier if you had something to give you a little more boost, dawes for example. Your experience probably shows that from a rolling start the CTR will stay with a totally standard classic shape impreza.

I dunno where you got the 1800 seconds from, I drive quick! otherwise you wouldn't get to silly speeds on private roads would you, my car is my00 with full SS decat, and ITG, 17's, eibachs, and Godspeed brakes. Goes well, stops ok.
I thought the type R must have been ragging it, glad to see I'm not the only one to 'beat' it slowly, nearly pooped myself when the brakes went, just had to go a bit quicker if I couldn't slow down.

I think in that kind of traffic, a pair of reebok type Rs (decat of course!) would be the quickest way to travel :D

I did a trackday back in May, and was seriously impressed by a Civic Type-R (New shape). It was well driven as he knew how to handle corners, but I wasn't expecting such a struggle on the straights.

My car is a standard STi3 Wagon, running SUL+Octane Booster, so it should be near the 276 bhp quoted.

nothing in particular wrong with the brakes, (same as you'rs) but they faded, that wasn't very confidence inspiring I can say, they did cool down again though. Thank goodness.

RON, I'm using Pagid Blues. I originally brought them purely for track use, but haven't got the time or inclination to keep swappng them over.

I am well impressed with them, they aren't cheap, but at my last track day I had to come in when I was tired, rather than when the brakes started to fade.

I really like the Accord Type R as my mate drives one. At 5,800 its an animal - love the howl of the exhaust. Great car - would I swap for a Scooby? Hmm...probably not - prefer the great road presense you create, no matter where you are.

I loved my test drive in the accord, wonderful sound and very fast.
Not quite up to my wrxppp but I'd say not far off if really thrashed.
(dealer was patronising to my wife so he lost the sale!)
