I have just fitted a Power Engineering downpipe (to std centre - MY99) and I can't stop it from blowing at the join. The std downpipe has a bevelled edge that fits into the centre section. The PE version has a standard guage steel section with no bevel.
There are no gaskets used in the std setup and none supplied with the PE version. Can anyone offer any help please? to me, it appears that gaskets are required??????????

Many thanks..

Very Hacked off..........

hi,

that bevel on your standard downpipe is actually a gasket, if you clean it up with a wire brush, then should be clearer to see.

for a flat flange downpipe to seal to the centre properly, then yes, a gasket should be used. dont use exhaust paste with your standard centre cat in place, as this stuff can damage cats.

if you get a thin sharp tool such as a wallpaper scraper and try and carefully prise the gasket of your standard d/pipe, then you can try re-using it.
just sit it in the recess of the flange on your centre section, then bolt them together.

hope this helps
ian :)

This gasket is an O ring which can disintegrate when pried off. Auto factors shop should be able to sort a new one - only a couple of quid.
