When a Pre96 WRX is imported to the UK, how is the 112mph Speedlmiter removed.

I have just downloaded a Map from a 94WRX and the Speedlimiter in the ECU code still reads 112mph.

Other than re-programming the ECU how to they do it ?

My UK car running modified UK code has the speed limiter set to 170mph, so if a WRX map is loaded I will have to up the limit set in the WRX Map to be 170mph also.

Just interested in how the importers do it ?

Scott,

It's a mechanical delimiter for the pre digital dash cars. It's a reduction gearbox that fits into the speedo cable. Got mine for £50'ish from South Eastern Tranmissions - piece of cake to fit. Mind you I need the speedo face changed as I've no idea what speed it's doing now !!

I think the delimiter is an electronic thing that reduces or fixes the speed signal to the ecu, without affecting drive to the dash. (Jap spec cars have mech speedo, but elec feed to the exu still).

Fixing it in the ECU is what the japanese tuning companies tend to do with performance ecu upgrades.

JUN Map still has 112MPH limit (http://www.junauto.co.jp/index-e.html), same as WRX94 Map I Downloaded on Saturday. But I guess Kevin's WRX has the mech/electronic ECU fooler fitted then.

Have just adjusted JUN map to give 170mph limit and brought the fuel cut limit down to an ECU readable level. Also adjusted the upper Boost limits to the same as my Stage 2 Version (15.5psi).

you will probably need to tweak the duty cycles down a tad to match the lower boost target. If they are too different you might overshoot and get the boost oscillating.

It was only the below 2850rpm limits that needed reducing from 17psi to 15.48psi and I doubt you will get that sort of PSi at those revs anyway.

looking at the duty cycles, the JUN map was very similar to what I have in my Stage 2 at those levels. So I don't think it's really worth changing.

Although the JUN MAP dropped from 17psi to 14.8psi after 2850rpm intil redline, yet the Duty Cycle Values were still increasing ???

I'm sure my importer added a simple gear reduction on the cable to the dash. Apparently the ECU is still looking to limit to 180 - but obviously doesn't know that '180' is now mph and not km/h.

Only change to the speedo on the dash is an mph sticker over the old km/h writing.

Forgot to say '93 WRX

Interesting dave, I guess the electronic signal is generated after the speedo gear conversion. Unless there is something you haven't seen yet.

We can modify your pre 96 ECU to get rid of the 112MPH speed limit. Give us a call if you're interested.

TEG Sport...

Errmm, so can I.

Cheers anyway. What else can you tell me about the ECU code. Mail me and we'll have a chat. We have most MAP locations for the Pre96, but would like to know more if there is more to know.....
