gangstor 25 August 2002 07:04 PM

did u mix any pertols?

dhorwich 25 August 2002 08:14 PM

I think you need to take it out for a few full throttle runs, so the ecu can sort its self out... (not very technical i now:D:D:D)

its an STI ver6 Type R no just optimax since june?

TonyBurns 26 August 2002 06:50 PM

You need to get out and go though the gears rather than letting the car idle as it wont do it any good just sitting there :(
What fuel did you put in before the optimax?

Tony:D

jabroni 26 August 2002 07:26 PM

Tony used SUL on recommendation of park lane where i bought her last november have been out since just the same?

TonyBurns 26 August 2002 07:35 PM

Sounds like it could be a bad batch of fuel :(
Have run my MY00 PPP'd car on optimax since it was available round here, havnt had any probs with it so far :D (or they put UL in the optimax tank )

Have you been working on the car at all..... anywhere near the air flow meter...??? check here to see if the wire plug connector is still attached...

Have you checked all pipes e.t.c are connected...???

Does the car drive at all, will it rev if you press the throttle??.....

Dan

jabroni 27 August 2002 07:08 PM

Car drives fine, fitted an ITG panel filter some months ago this problem seems to be just on tickover where is the airflow meter and plug thanks for your reply M8

dhorwich 27 August 2002 07:23 PM

AFM is just before the box you fitted the ITG filter in....

It could be a damaged Air flow meter/MAF, caused by the ITG..???

Dan

jabroni 27 August 2002 07:34 PM

Dan garage to look at next week how could replacing the filter cause this? and how much will it cost to replace approx. thanks for your advice on this cannot get the car looked until next tuesday morning earliest appointment at a garage in newcastle recommended by Graham Goode racing hope they can sort it.Sorry to repeat myself put was not aware of causing any damage to the AFM is thos just to do with ITG Filter replacement again thanks DAN M8

Do you have any CEL's (check engine lights)? Knackered lambda would also cause your issues, more likely even...

Richard

jabroni 28 August 2002 07:14 PM

No check engine lights as stated car seems to run ok have disconnected MAF sensor plug tickover evened out for a minute but then it cut out again.Would appreciate any other opinions.thanks

jabroni 28 August 2002 07:40 PM

HELP ANYONE I AM FRIGHTENED I MAY BE DAMAGING THE ENGINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Charlie H 28 August 2002 09:19 PM

What is it actually doing cos mine has gone a bit lumpy since using optimax. When sat idling, she engine seems to kick a bit, almost like someone is just kicking the bulkhead a bit. Also, when she's cold the revs seem to wander about a bit beteen 800 and 1500 just for a split second. Have mot next week so I'll see what that uncovers, ie faulty lamda sensor etc.

edited to say it's a 93 wrx

jabroni 29 August 2002 06:52 PM

thanks for nthe reply charlie sounds like similar fault but mine keeps cuting out no CEL or anyother fault.

TonyBurns 29 August 2002 07:19 PM

Jab, sorry for not getting back :(
Certain types of filters will put goo onto your MAF sensor, its known that the MY99/00 sensors are more sensitive to contamination over the older ones, this could be your problem.
The other option is to revert back to your original fuel (or add octane booster) and as long as you dont rag your car (hard to do i know :() you should be ok.

Tony:)

jabroni 29 August 2002 07:27 PM

tony can i give u a call regarding this?

jabroni 29 August 2002 07:35 PM

tony thanks for all of your help where are you from, maybe's its the oil of the ITG filter?

za-sti 30 August 2002 02:26 PM

The problem your experiencing does sound like the Air Flow Meter. Had similar problem on 99 UK car. Oil from filter had contaninated AFM. Simply cleaned out AFM.

TonyBurns 30 August 2002 07:05 PM

Jab, the best person i know to speak to is John Felstead as he knows loads about engines etc and he also runs an STi 5 V-ltd.
If you look for the forum he is a moderator of and give him an email (should be at the top of the page) he will be of more help to you than me IMHO as depending on when you had the ITG filter fitted etc and the time you have run it on optimax should give John a better idea of the cause.

According to garage new AFM needed priced at over £400 pounds what the F^^^K is going on here anyonelse paid as much (Graham Goode Racing to supply part).

ian/555 03 September 2002 09:02 PM

Jabroni sorry to hear you are having probs with the car. I think I read on the bbs somewhere that you can order the sensor on its own without the housing, with the cost of it being IIRC about £100. I will do a quick search for you and see if I can find the part No. for you.
ian

dhorwich 03 September 2002 09:17 PM

thought it would be the AFM... you can buy just the sensor, give subaru a call.... after all graham goode will probably get it from subaru anyway...
