SIDC 22 August 2002 10:06 PM

..hopefully I have your attention. No - its not cancelled, but unless we sell another 15 places by the end of Sunday 25th August it will be.

Only 15 people have come forward so far. A very poor turnout indeed. The club listened to its members, put in the time to organise sessions, send out emails, get it in the shop etc and so far it looks like a wasted effort.

C'mon guys..get those orders in please :-)

WHAT A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS:(:(

The biggest single club and and single type(Impreza) at last years TRAX now will be the smallest this year :(:(

I don't think IM realised what they done:eek: with the warrenty on trackdays:( They could have stabbed themselves in the foot big time

Hmm I wonder what happened?

The last 2 years I have attended the turnout has been massive, 3 sessions in 2000, 4 (or was it 6) in 2002. Death by its own popularity I'm sure. Or then again Stef would organise well in advance - Trax may issue tickets a week in advance but we were fully booked months before. Same with the EVO day at Castle Combe last year but a trend seems to be appearing this year. I think where the seasoned Subaru trackday peeps would happily turn out for a meet rather than consider it a track session now they just can't be arsed to do track time for 2 reasons - for one the driving ettiquette was poor - even in the non novice Subaru sessions and secondly the Schoolmaster Trax attitude to cars going off - red flags just because you're in the litter. Oh and thirdly I just wish they'd cancel the whole bloody thing since trying to get a trackday insurace quote from Eggar Lawson since the clowns in the P1 and Porsche last year has put the quotes sky-high, I feel sorry for people trying to get newbie quotes now.

Tracktime at Trax personally for me is a waste of time which is why I'm not doing it this year, I might attend though :). Its a shame since I cut my trackday teeth at Trax2000, now I couldn't think of a worse place to start :(

Sorry about the moan, I wouldn't have replied if it wasn't for the "we've put alot of effort in" bollocks.

:(This is now looking a distinct possibility:(

Lee 23 August 2002 06:10 PM

OK we've only sold 16 sessions so the tracktime will be canned and those who paid via credit card will be refunded.

What a complete waste of time. I predicted that of the 40odd people who emailed us saying "we'll go, yes we'll go" a few would drop out but I never thought so many.

As for the "ah you left it too late" and "sidc this, sidc that, moan whinge" complete cobblers I'm afraid.

The bottom line is that few people want to spend £200 on a 15 minute session that could be finished after half a lap if someone has an off. (£200 based on track/insurance/fuel/wear-n-tear)

Personally, don't blame em.

T5NYW 23 August 2002 10:32 PM

Lee does this also mean there will not be an SIDC enclosure??? How many tickets for entry Did you sell ?

Some may, who purchased track time, require entry tickets instead should they still be able to buy them??

Tony

salsa-king 23 August 2002 11:22 PM

lee
why was this not put to members b4 Aug though...easy to say all this now!
i asked about Trax in Feb..as you'll see on the SIDC bbs.
if i knew SIDC didn't want to sort it out i could have book with TRAX direct!
3 weeks notice to say you might/we might not is not enought time..is it?
then put ppl on the spot to sign for track time..in only one week!

also..only 60 cars in the enclosure????????? how many did we have last year?
does this mean we are one of the smaller clubs now in attendance....i take it we will be Parking next to the Toyota Corolla Club UK at the bottom end of the field then???

:(

Lee 24 August 2002 01:51 AM

Regardless of whether you booked tracktime or not you'd still need an entry ticket. So if anyone booked *just* tracktime a big oops - best go and book the tickets now.

Salsa, it would make no difference if it had been done in January to be honest. From the emails we have received the opinion is that 15 minutes is too short for the cost and many are concerned that it will be a "Max Power" race.

salsa-king 24 August 2002 07:53 AM

Lee
well you know best.

Lee 24 August 2002 08:06 AM

All of the people who paid have had a refund this morning.

There is a general decline in trackday popularity so we have made a decision to run only 2 or 3 main trackdays next year, get them booked well in advance and publicise the heck out of them so that we meet costs.

CHRIS_D 24 August 2002 09:19 AM

received a refund this morning, gutted:(

have bought another entry ticket though.

Will there still be an SIDC enclosure or will i have to park in the general car park?

Lee 24 August 2002 09:24 AM

Tickets and the enclosure are unaffected :)

CHRIS_D 24 August 2002 09:34 AM

cool

cheers lee

T5NYW 24 August 2002 10:50 AM

Lee,
I have only bought entrance tickets:D but did inquired about Trackday refund and entrance as general concern as I thought tracktime included entry. Sometimes the easy things are missed

See you there Tony

Personally I am glad that we don't have track time at Trax.

I consider it dangerous for a number of reasons...

1) No familiarisation laps.
2) Very short time resulting in people treating it like a race.
3) Some people driving beyond their ability because they are being watched by several thousand spectators.
4) People don't move (see 3, above) over resulting in unsafe overtakes.

Anyone who watched the P1 overtake on the inside of the bend at the end of the main straight, putting him in in the wrong place with too much speed, eventually rolling in the gravel trap will know exactly what I mean. And the driver was an experienced track day'er.

And as Lee said, if someone does go off on lap one, that's your track fee and insurance money wasted. I did 3 sessions two years ago and all were cut short.

If you want to drive on a track, go to a club event at somewhere like Bedford. There's no pressure to be seen as the fastest car there, etiqutte is good and rigorously enforced, there's massive run offs if you do run out of skill and there are plenty of instructors on hand to help improve your ability.

Chu 24 August 2002 12:28 PM

Any one know how long it takes for the tickets to arrive in the post?

Lee 24 August 2002 01:31 PM

Since we haven't even ordered em from trax, a while yet ;)

Tim Taylor 25 August 2002 06:19 PM
