Braking hard from high m-way speed last night, and this almighty resonance noise filled the car (really, really strange noise). I then sped up and braked again and sure enough it was still there :(

Any ideas? MY01 WRX with standard disks and pads (done 17k miles)

Cheers,

Tim.

Tim,
I too have a MY01 and I get a humming noise coming from my nearside rear hub. This may be related to your problem?

I got the local scooby dealer to look at it but they could not find anything wrong...

Then, a few weeks later, they told me that they had received a technical bulletin from Subaru HQ saying that there was a simple modification to cure a 'recognised' brake humming problem. What they do is remove the rear brake pads and sand off (by grinder or whatever) a 45 degree angle of brake pad on the edges of the pad that connect with the disk. This (allegedly) solves the problem. I say allegedly because, although initially this removed the noise, it has now returned!

Have a chat with your dealer!
Mak.

Thanks Mak - will mention it to my dealer next time I am there, or earlier if the problem gets worse. Couldn’t replicate it this morning, but will make more of an effort to tonight ;)

Tim.
