Up until 6 weeks ago I had been religiously using Optimax in my MY95 WRX with no problems, then followed 3 weeks of starting problems - the car would turn over but not fire up (not a battery issue) resulting eventually in me having to call out the AA. A work colleague owns a Celica GT4 Jap import and also starting using Optimax the same time I did - he experienced the same problems as me and spent £200 at a garage trying to find the problem. We both stopped using Optimax and switched to Texaco & Esso SUL - and hey presto - both cars now start first time eveery time - petrol is the only thing I have changed - seems too much of a coincidence to me? (Another friend with a 3.0 V6 Audi has experienced starting problems on Optimax too) - anyone else had similar??

Hi Phil, long time no see (as they say)
as a side note, is it ok with octane booster, isn't the early wrx ecu mapped for 100ron petrol. i beleive optimax is only 98ron. Kevin |
My car (STi) has been run on Optimax for nearly a year now - starts perfectly, works perfectly and produces excellent power.

Sounds like some bad fuel you have up there.
Run Optimax in MY94 STI with no problems at all. Also Sue the Petrol Company they can afford it. [Edited by Esoteric Beast - 8/21/2002 11:34:30 PM] |
MDC - MY94 WRX, after the fifth tank the car was running lumpy - after a couple more there were audible sounds of pinking (detting)
A switch back to SUL and the symptoms went away....... |
i've been runnin optimax for a year now in MY94 with only good results
