The Mechanical Kind that is.

I am after an LSD for the Westfield. I think the ones that are commonly fitted are off the old ford XR4x4's. I have found a chap who is breaking an old XR4x4 and I want to buy the Diff. How much are they worth.

Cheers

Nikko

Why not post on the WSCC bbs - there's lots of owners there that will have done this procedure. There's a company called Road & Race Transmissions (no contact details I'm afraid) that can perform this upgrade for you.

Please do let me know how you get on, I have a Westy that's lacking an LSD too :)

If its a lsd unit for an atlas axle you're after I have one to sell.

Hello all!

Yep, I'm in the same boat too. I "think" a decent Sierra diff will be bewtween £50 (v cheap) and up to £150. I am hoping to save some wedge and get a Quaiffe ATB LSD - the b0llox!!!

PS Quaife LSD - £500 Ouch!!!!

apjames 22 August 2002 09:54 AM

does this mean you are going to drive the whole 5 miles down the road to blow the dust off it and perhaps use the car for the first time this summer ;) ;)

CrisPDuk 22 August 2002 12:49 PM

When I totalled the back of my XR4x4 I managed to get a whole rear subframe assembly for £180, but they do seem to be thin on the ground these days, I would guess £150-200, depending on whether the guy knows what it's to be used for. Otherwise, try an old-fashioned small scrapyard, they tend not to overprice the bits.

An alternative is Loot, you can buy a complete car with no MOT for less than £200 these days.

APJames, I think I will get it out this weekend if the weather is nice when we have the BBQ.

I already know of thw WSSC board but couldnt be bothered registering to put up one post one I am on a slow dialup connection.

So why is the Quaife unit better then. Are they more suitable for light weight cars.....

Mossman 22 August 2002 03:28 PM

Quaife is like...... a ferrari. You pay for name, quality and performance. I think they are pretty much the ultimate in terms of LSD's, gearboxes etc (is this right!!??!).

The Quaiffe is the mutts for an LSD, and worth the £500+ tag.

The XR4x4 is OK - mine has one, and they are usually £50-100 for recon units, I'd offer £40 and haggle ;)

catflap 25 August 2002 01:47 AM

How much better is the quaiffe? what can it do that the xr cant, at 50 quid vs 500 quid? Not taking the p*ss just dont know

I am thinking about a LSD, and 50 odd quid sounds good for a bit more grip, but 500 is serious money

GaryC 25 August 2002 08:08 AM

I can't remember (better asking on yahoogroup). But it's like saying "These PIAAs spots may be better, but at £400 are they so much better than £40 std foglights!"
