Same as any MY99 - its no different :D

Not too sure about any differences with the RB5 mods m8 but fort it'd b rude 2 leave a new'b sitting waiting so 4 wot it's worth:
I have a blitz NURspec type R centre & back box on me MY97 turbo 2000 & it is bloody loud on it's own although nice 2 have option of screwing silencer in for longer journeys or just 2 stop neighbours moaning, car alarms going off etc;) I believe generally if u is going full system then scoobysport downpipe is the noisiest & most popular choice:D
Air filter wise if u wana avoid any potential risk of MAF troubles then ITG or similar panel filter will be safest but the K&N or such like cone filters do give a gr8 sound & slightly better air flow which with da big fat loud decatted exhaust = tasty BHP gains;)
Many threads on such mods & many others in general techincal, drivetrain & just about every section but there's my minor knowledge 4 wot it's worth:p;) lol
Si
PS u may just wana swap with my car? lol u no u wana:D

Dark Blue Mark 20 August 2002 10:30 PM

But you do need a full system... :)

scooby_si 20 August 2002 10:33 PM

PS failing that if u do wana upgrade breaks can i have 1st refusal on yer 4pots i still have the lowly 2pot:eek: but i think most 4pot & even 6pot will fit under most 17"ers although certain uns may need sum work i have radius R2's which i no will need spacers 2 fit 4 pots under but i will still take 'em off yer hands & get it sorted;)
Si

rb5ray 20 August 2002 10:36 PM

cheers 4 the advise si, as u say im a bit of a newbie, take it the panel filters will just slot in??? but dont u get bigger bhp with induction kits??? anyway u got 1'st dibs on my brakes.

rb5ray 20 August 2002 10:38 PM

thats wot im asking about a full system, wot r the pros and cons??????

Trout... 20 August 2002 10:41 PM

Pros

Earlier boost rise - much improved torque lower down
More noise - burble, burble, burble

Cons

Fail your MOT
More noise

rb5ray 20 August 2002 10:47 PM

its not a WR, completly standard at the mo, good fun but i need more power already!!! so an upgraded downpipe would fail my mot, or is that decatted???? or am i just asking stupid questions??????

Plantie 20 August 2002 10:49 PM

Ray there are many MOT stations that will pass you.... so I wouldn't worry about that to be honest...

This will be the best improvement you can make.... after that get an ECUTEK... for the money it is a good ECU which will give you PPP performance.

rb5ray 20 August 2002 10:55 PM

how much will a ECUTEK set me back? had a K+N kit on my williams so im happy with that. Wot bhp u running at the mo??????

Plantie 20 August 2002 11:02 PM

Ray

the Ecutek is 500, and the K&N should be about £85.

Plantie

I've got one also with PPP,and would like similar power
Paul

Plantie 20 August 2002 11:14 PM

Paul.... quite a few....

Mail me and I will fill you in on the spec...

:D

rb5ray 20 August 2002 11:20 PM

320, ive got a fair way 2 go yet!! there any local meets 2 me u know of in kent/london or harrogate in yorkshire????? went 4 my first proper spin 2day, 1 thing ive noticed is people see u coming and just pull over!!! its weird!!

Cord 20 August 2002 11:47 PM

I've also got an RB5, I have a HKS hyper muffler full de-cat system and a HKS induction kit. Not sure about sound (I think the scooby sport is just plain LOUD, but not very nice) but I reckon my HKS combination has released more BHP than a friends Scoobysport and KN set up.

rb5ray 20 August 2002 11:50 PM

ive heard the blitz and that sounded good so did the scoobysport on my m8's, how much is the HKS?? had a magnex on my williams, but it seems not many people r going 4 them.

chrisp 21 August 2002 12:43 AM

Just one bit of advice and it goes against the grain. Get use to it before you mod it, peopel look for standard motor and immediately want to change it. Find otu what it can do and where you want to improve it. You will never know if you start bolting on bits here there and everywhere.

BHP and noise is not the be all and end all just because it sound noisier doesnt necessarily mean it goes any quicker ;). Go to meets see what people have done. I soon realized that I didnt want a full system as I preferred to hear myself think. I did centre and BB and left the DP alone it now rumbles away on throttle but is pleasent when cruising at constant throttle. Overdoing it can leave the car undrivable/peaky and expensive to fix when it goes bang which it will if not done correctly. This shoudlnt happen with an exhaust chnage but playing with boost settings can turn a pefectly good flat 4 into a scrap 4.

Cheers

ChrisP

Sorry rb5ray can't tell you how much the HKS stuff was cos I got it at cost :D Ahh the benefit of working at a tuning company!!!
I think the exhaust is about £650 and the induction kit £140

scooby_si 21 August 2002 07:17 AM

I'd agree with the comments of get used 2 the car b4 going mad 4 sum goodies, i was guna stay standard for my 1st year on scooby insurance etc;) But then needed new wheels when the tyres were shyte in wet & then Group buys on here, which means cheaper goodies, ment i kudn't turn down a blitz exhaust & ITg panel filter & quickshift & nice gear surround & knob oh & then there's 2nd hand bits ;) Hmm greed dont u just love it:D lol. There's plenty of info on the various sections as to specific models pros cons etc. 1 thing i wood say, not trying 2 scare u into getting brakes 1st mind;), is that i believe MY99 has the more temperamental MAF (mass air flow sensor thing) which doesn't always like the cone filter things, but then it is a bit hit & miss so u pays yer money etc etc.......
Si
PS by the way u dont really need those front 4 pots u may as well take em off now:eek: lol;)

R.B.5 21 August 2002 08:54 AM

RB5ray,

I too have an RB5. Bought it 4 months ago and have since been bitten by the modifying bug. First things i changed were the backbox, downpipe and air filter for Prodrive, Scoobysport and ITG equivalents. I bought them off here in the "for sale" section which i must say i amazing. The downpipe changed the cars engine note slightly. I hear the turbo spool up now with a nice whistle followed by the woosh of my dump valve. The biggest difference was from the backbox though. Makes the car sound awesome. Yay for the boxer beat :) :)

The next thing i did to the car was buy a Dawes device and Dawes afr meter along with a boost gauge. Fitted the components last night and i must say it has made a massive difference. I'm not sure what power my car has at the moment as i'm waiting to get it on a roller, but it feels very quick compared to what it was. :)

I noticed that before i had fitted the Dawes device my car was running at approx 14.5/15 psi boost. After fitting the device i even saw 20 psi on a few occasions. The cut off point kicked in and i eventually turned it down to 18 psi as not to fry my pistons. Not sure how much BHP i gained by adding the 3 psi but it feels much better to drive.

Search for Dawes Device on google and read up about it. These things imo are the least expensive items to get first and then maybe go for the more expensive ones i.e ecu, injectors etc.

hope this helps :)

i also have a rb5wr .thinking about changing prodrive exhaust for scoobysport, but plantie mentioned the blitz one ,i dont know a lot about mods so which is best ?
scoobysport quoted around 700 for full exhaust

Plantie 21 August 2002 11:36 AM

If you like realy loud go Blitz... if not go ScoobySport.

Ray

If you go to the Woodman at Ide Hill Friday we will be there with our RB5. Not done any where near as much as plantie but have changed exhaust, down pipe and centre and put an ITG panel filter on too. Swapped std lights for morrettes and Godspeed brakes are going on on Monday.

May C U @ the woodman
